There have been several pix of this. The one I like the best was one that had a gas generator on a. trailer hitch cargo carrier but cannot find a picture of it. This is the future of electric cars.

Consider submarines before the use of nuclear power. Submarines run their propulsion on stored electricity. Also, all their lighting, ventilation, navigational gear, sonar, even all cooking. And gas cannot be used for any of that while underwater. They might be able to run the deisels by exhausting them to the sea, but they need fresh oxygen to run the deisels, which means coming to the surface.
Those generators can break, and anyway need regular preventative maintenance. So they have more than one installed. One submarine I am very familiar with had three generators. And those generators are exactly the same one used on many diesel electric trains.
To recharge the batteries they have to come at least near enough to the surface to extend a snorkel to suck in air. And the snorkel, though hard to detect, is not immune to radar. So they have to rely on their batteries for all their power for extended time.
Until we get nuclear powered vehicles, perhaps a better battery is needed. That and more charging stations so that generators are not needed on the vehicles.
This is all so unnecessary and will do nothing to help the environment. People will be running gas powered generators to supplement the shortcoming s of the power grid. I recently had a power failure in my town and within minutes I could hear the portable generators start up while people created their own electricity.
@exitseven We have electric grids fed by wind power, solar power, and now even ocean wave power. And the interconnections of the power grid make power failure almost impossible, other than something cutting those lines, and they are ususally quickly repaired. Many homes have generators for such circumstances, but most do not, and battery operated lighting is all they need for the short term.
I drive electric. We charge at night and have only had one real issue. We went to dinner with some friends and the charger we hooked up to wasn't working there was no indication of error when we got back we were still very low But we had just enough power ro get to another charger.
Imagine being in California, where all cars will be electric and gas powered generators are outlawed. Maybe they have plans for a electric generator... however the hell that would work.
I like the idea of a diesel electric pickup truck. Get more towing than regular diesel right?
As a Californian I couldn't stop laughing at this
@KostasKouvalis you won't be laughing in a few years.
Yes and no. I say no because it’s like you know that ur buying one so you should buy one as a responsibility but yes because people don’t have common sense😂
I heard som spoiled little rich punk talk about how he has two vehicles in his garage. One is electric that he drives to work and the other is a gasoline powered pickup truck he uses on long trips. He said it is the perfect solution. What abotu people that cannot afford 2 vehicles?

it's like this... and yea, probably run on expensive gas. Or maybe a hand crank like the old model T's?

Maybe we need to bury electric wires in the road for constnat charge, like the race car toy we used to have. Or a charge station every 2 miles. add in solar sunroof for good days, that help. anyway we go, if we are doing this... cars need to be lighter, slower, smaller.
I suggested tesla towers along all roads, spaced properly. Including the mountains and forest service lands too.
@Aerissa_Jade yes, and turn those into "gyms" people riding bikes can power the cars... if it takes 6hrs to charge, whatever, it's better than waiting for the sun to hit the solar panels.
I think that if states are going to require electric cars they better not only cost the same as other fuels but have the infrastructure to use them. Has anyone ever seen an overhead picture of North Korea at night? It’s this little blacked out area next to it’s more successful neighbors who have enough electricity to meet the needs of their population. Don’t be North Korea.
That is one of the biggest draw backs, is their range, or lack of it.
If you use them around town to go to work, or run errands then they are fine.
For cross country then no.
You have to plan where charging stations are, hope they are working when you get there and you have to wait until it is recharged.
Not to easy to do in where the hell am I Wyoming, or in the rocky mountains.
I've lived in where ever the hell Wyoming and its funny when a liberal says, to take mass transit.
Socialism: Control Medical, Education, and Energy. The Green Deal is to seal the Big 3 tenets that underpin Socialism... or "Democracy" NOT Republic. Control of individual Physical Being (health), Mind, and Movement. You are living in a Prison Camp...
Yep.
I often go from Poland to Croatia by car on holidays with my family (by car, because my mum is afraid of flying). And if they force everyone to use electric cars that would not be possible, as electric cars can't go such far distance without charging.
That’s why the Chevy Volt was a better set up since it uses a generator to provide electric for the car, since it uses a gas generator to charge the batteries if it runs low after an overnight charge at the home. Same old principle as the diesel train uses diesel to run the generator for the electric motors on the train.
@Red_Arrow Yeah I knew that they don’t have batteries, I was just using an example how they still use fuel to work even though they have electric motors moving the cars, it’s just an old principle that still works
No need, as they come with an emergency internal combustion engine.
Shitty Tesla's do not.
Good idea... put it where the spare tire would go.
I think we need a real leap in technology to make electric cars a genuine replacement for gasoline / diesel powered ones.
Let's just keep burning oil until we all suffocate.
That's what a hybrid is...
That’s awesome, lol
You mean a hybrid? No need for a trailer!
