Why are online fraudsters always so surprised, so shocked, and their reaction so disproportionate when someone finally exposes them?

Don't people like this (i. e. fraudsters, catfish, scammers etc.) understand that eventually they'll make a mistake and be found out? I ask this question because on GAG I've been "unfollowed" by one, and blocked by another, for simply pointing out the patently obvious to them, that the photos they were expecting people to believe were theirs were actually not. It's very easy to search for the true source of a photo online. I guess they didn't know that.

I know, I've got a picture of Scarlett Johansson as my profile photo. It's part of a bet that I've made with someone, kind of like an experiment. :)

On another site I used a profile pic of a celebrity I like, without intending anybody to think it was me, I thought the celebrity was recognizable enough that people would know who it was, but I got compliments about "my" hair and had to start mentioning who the pic actually was. I do not want to post any identifying info about myself here including a pic so I just leave the default icon there now rather than have another misunderstanding.

Yes, that's basically what I've done. If someone here thinks the image is mine, or that I'm actually Scarlett Johansson, then they're probably so gullible they actually fall for Nigerian emails scams as well, and there's not much that one can do to help them.

Recently some girl posted a picture of her face (which I’m pretty sure wasn’t actually her face either) very obviously photoshopped onto someone else’s body.
when I pointed it out she said something like “my make up artist put too much make up on me” and blocked me before I could respond 😭

They usually run away when I expose them but sometimes they don't, like DevikaButts. I don't know if these people think we are stupid
