If it wasn't for LibsofTikTok and other various YouTubers, using other people's TikTok's to exhibit how retarded people can be on there... I'd have no idea it even exists.

So as a fellow outsider of TikTok, all I know about it is people get on there and rant about things they should probably keep to themselves. That is of no use to me. For instance, I spent my entire day researching quadricep exercises... my searches have led to many youtube videos, and many articles... Jack shit of my searches has led to anything TicTok related, and that leads me to believe it's useless for what I use the internet for.

I think it's mainly for dumb dance videos, people to complain about their relationships or spew their retarded beliefs. I used to see memes from there on youtube meme videos I watch, but I think that's been drying up for more of the destructive behaviors like faulty relationships and political beliefs, but that's just my thoughts on what might be over there for the most part. Not useful to me :-/

While I've seen TikTok videos on YouTube or the news, you couldn't pay me to install the TikTok app or visit that website. TikTok is the most invasive Chinese spyware you can imagine, and if an American company made an app that did what the TikTok app does (it tracks and steals EVERYTHING - it key-logs your keyboard app, it steals anything in your Clipboard [when you copy and paste], downloads your email, contacts , and your photos, and tracks your usage of other apps and websites), it would get sued out of existence, but because ByteDance is partially owned by the CCP, nothing is going to be done.

This is why the CEO of the American branch of the company refused to give any real answers about the CCP having access to western data - and why his testimony was a disaster for ByteDance and has led to restrictions (which have SEVERE penalties if violated), and is likely to face even more restrictions if not an outright ban.

Some of the clips are borderline pimping themselves to get traffic to an OF page. Most are just kids. It's terrifying how many girls turn 18 and "celebrate" by selling themselves.

Most, thankfully, are more for fun. There's a few good users for different interests. I'm interested in buying a smallholding and farming using traditional methods - horses instead of tractors, crop rotation, storage without freezing (unstable electric supply in South Africa) - and there's a few users who post videos on that kind of thing. One guy has posted a few clips on making mead that I'm going to try.

I only started playing around in October and it's taken this long for the algorithm to start sending me mostly stuff I'm actually interested in.

i dont anymore but only cause it takes up 80% of my phones storage, lags all the time and is slow af and youtube already has shorts which is basically the same as tiktok except walmart version but still its practically the same. plus anyways loads of tiktokers have their tiktoks in shorts format too so your not missing out on much either

@musicbrain5 India could have found a way around the ownership and origins of yhe company. What actually triggered are the short videos implying acid attacks on women when they rejected men. This one thing caused a flood of unified legislative efforts to ban TikTok for once and all

And not only this, several questionable videos were also shown to children and teenagers that has a lasting impact on them.

I only know this much, but I am sure you will find wayy more things if you look into it.

@musicbrain5 I do not know why India banned it, but the US has banned using it on any government owned equipment. The news has reported the reason is because China can collect information on the users that they otherwise could not get.

@Red_Arrow Yeah, there is a similar bill being put through here, at least in my province, to ban TikTok and perhaps other similar social media from government owned devices and computers. It’s not just for elected officials either, it’s for all government employees. We already had 2 or 3 members of provincial and federal legislature resign after it was found they were connected to China, feeding information to them about campaigns and elections, therefore allowing the Chinese government to have some influence over federal and provincial election results, among some other things. All of those politicians are of Chinese descent themselves. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I just started using it. Some of the people who report news are extremely good and do a lot of research. I know this because I verify it myself too. I've also been exposed to a LOT of things that I had no idea were happening, and it's been very eye opening. I ignore the silly girls selling shit.
