Here's what the guts of a recording/mixing console looks like.
5 PCBs and whole lot of ribbon cables!

It looks like a bunch of duplicate circuits. Since it's a mixer, I assume they are multiple channels and/or frequencies. And maybe some sort of router to mix the channels.

I was a PCB designer. Back in the early 80s I didn't have any electronic theory at the time, but I guessed that analog was the way to go. So I tried to get contracts where I got good analog experience. Turned out that I guessed right. To this day analog is still the way to go if you want to be in demand, especially if you have RF experience. Later I got electronic theory - general theory, and transmission line theory. It served me well doing some of the higher end boards.

I did a fair amount of video and audio stuff. That included some high end audio and video for television and radio broadcast industry. Also some high end retail for the audiophile market. Try blasting 800 watts of clean audio in a closed car and see how fast you go deaf. Some idiots don't realize you're not supposed to be INSIDE the car when you crank out that much power. That shit is for shows and contests, not to crank up inside a car.

I don't remember talking to anyone about speakers. I don't really know that stuff. I just design the boards. Realistically I don't even need to know what it does, although I usually know at least a little about it.
