Snapchat question?

Someone who has my phone number asked me if I used Snapchat. I said no. They said it came up on their phone to add me or something. I've never had a Snapchat account. How can I check to see if there actually is a Snapchat account for my phone number or not? They think I'm lying or something since my name comes up on their phone (they use Snapchat a lot). I don't have Snapchat on my phone or anything and even showed them that. I have no use for Snapchat since I just use texting. Why would my name come up on their phone related to Snapchat?

You're automatically on there, just like my Dad and sister show up even though they don't have it either.

I guess Snapchat somehow gets your phone or Facebook information and automatically makes an account. Instagram and Tik Tok do that too.

I don't use Instagram, Facebook or Tik Tok. So I guess it's something else weird.

My guess is that they were being scammed. It had nothing to do with Snapchat. Some hacker found your name and phone number in their contact list and tried to scam them into clicking on a Snapchat link... that would have taken them to who knows where, where the scammer would have either downloaded software onto their phone to steal their identity, or phished them into giving the scammer their personal identity info.

That is a really good perspective actually. I will have to ask to see what it says and where it shows up. I could see how that'd be a great scam opportunity. Kind of like how Facebook does mock requests from people in your list of people. Thanks for your input.

No one should use Snapchat, period. Do some research into what they do with your info, and you will see why.

Uh I don't. I was asking why my name came up when I don't use it.
