What stops you from buying an electric vehicle?

How fucking inefficient they are. Sure it’s using electricity but it’s pissing so much of it away just to keep the battery at temp when off (in colder regions specifically I live in Canada) not to mention you’ve got 4-600 extra pounds cause batteries weigh more than engines. It also scales terribly (electric bike = very efficient, car = clownshow)

Also, charge times are super long. Even the fastest ones are still 100 times slower than gas or hydrogen. Let’s not even mention battery degradation and the fact that EVs are more difficult to recycle than regular vehicles.

only EV I’d ever consider is an aptera. It’s over 3x more efficient than a standard electric car and is covered in solar panels. To me, this cross between bike and car which is always passively charging is the only argument for an electric vehicle. Oh and it has 1000 miles max range. So it outranges gas and electric vehicles and is always charging via solar (up to 40 miles a day, so my average daily driving is like 15 kilometers I’d never charge it, but if I went camping I could go 600 miles away and it would regain 100 miles range while we chill a few days, giving me 600 to get home. It’s extremely versatile.

You're thinking wrong, then. There is plenty of "infrastructure". There are more power sockets in most streets, than there are gas station in most cities!

You've grown lazy and assuming you "must" use a "station" to recharge your car, when in fact you can recharge it at home.

2. Environmental destruction caused by the mining for the materials to make the batteries.
3. No safe way to dispose of the batteries.
4. In California we already suffer from rolling brown outs because of the lack of electrical production capabilities at peak times. Too many electric cars will make it worse.
5. Much of the electricity will have to be produced by coal, which defeats the purpose.
6. No gas tax income fro electrics, which creates a pathway for the authoritarians to order the installation of tracking devices on all cars in order to create a tax based upon miles driven. This will of course be used by them to remotely track you.

i have e/v. i've had it for 3 years. unless something changes i will never buy a gas combustion engine car again. i've been thrilled with my car. no issues

I drive a lot in Texas a connected states and there’s not a lot of charge stations. Waiting for batteries to charge faster like filling up the tank fast, and for there to be one every 20 miles wherever I go.

I gotta hybrid. My Prius is running 300,000 miles

The decent ones are too expensive for what you get and there is too much controversy regarding how much mileage they actually get versus how much mileage the manufacturers say they get. Finally, the lack of infrastructure and the time it takes to charge the batteries in these things are good reasons not to buy one.

they are expensive, they have a limited range, they take hours to recharge, there are not many charging stations, they catch on fire, the batteries need to be replaced every 5 years, other than that they are awesome.

While big strides have been made in the EV industry over the past 10 years., it's still not as efficient as gasoline powered. Anyone who tries to sell you otherwise is flat out lying. I looked into switching to electric for my business. And all my research concluded that anything I saved in fuel consumption would be offset by inefficiency. So for the time being I'll stick with the devil I know. If technology changes I'll re-evaluate it.
