What is Video Home System (VHS) ?

It is a video tape machine. The tape is in a cartridge and is inserted into the VHS machine. It could both record and play back. You could watch one channel and record another which was useful if there were two shows you wanted to watch that were broadcast at the same time. You could also program it to record when you were not home. Sony had a competing technology called Betamax.

VHS tapes are old cassett tapes with video and audio output similar to what you get in theaters but at home.

They are outdated
