More importantly, what do I do with mine?

They became obsolete due to better services out there like iso files you can convert form cd and other playable drives like dvds onto a image file like mp4, WAV, exc. You can use your vhs and dvd and convert them onto a more universal video like mp4 using a capture card. Capture cards are a great way to convert any videos or games you have and preserve them forever without fear of losing them. A dvd could go bad or break and a vhs tape the tape could also go bad. Thus another reason why they became practically extinct.
If you want a capture card that isn't expensive like most are cause now these days most people use them to record their games then I recommend the Diamond Capture card. This one is only about $20 and has composite cables with it. The ones that you can use on vhs tape players. Those red, white, and yellow cables.

I keep them since I spend so much way back and have all the movies to use in them, I don’t like having to stream everything because of the fact that bad Internet problems could messed it up and there’s too many advertisements
Right they tell you this is the newest latest and greatest technology in a course with time something better comes along, and now is worthless
Yeah, I hate how all my stuff has become obsolete yet It’s still reliable especially if the Internet is out
Finally someone says exactly what im thinking
@DizzyDesii Yeah we tend to think alike on a lot of things 😊
Lol i won’t be that chick who talks about zodiacs aloud lmao, but thats likely one reason 🤣 Anyways, great minds think alike
@DizzyDesii Yeah true and I don’t talk about birth signs, lol

VHS went to landfill. Probably a lot of DVDs too but doubtless many are still kickin. Movie shops like Blockbuster went to landfill too. Standard definition TVs all retired to landfill.
I'm still happy with DVD quality as I have a dvd large library. Never got into bluray much because it was 1. harder to rip 2. not significantly better to motivate replacement.
The move from VHS to DVD was certainly worthwhile making the move.
HD video quality is still good for me. I have 4K only because that is all I could buy in a TV. Not motivated for 8K as again not enough motivation. I would be motivated to buy OLED for better contrast quality.
Most people still play CDs because DVD audio disks weren't sufficiently better to motivate replacement.
We are firmly in the era of good enough.
I'd junk your VHS player but keep your DVD player Build quality is poorer. A new dvd player just lasted me 12 months but the first one I bought still going strong.
You never told me you had a collection 😍 one day we shall compare!
I also dont care for bluray and probably only own 20 bluray films out of the 1000+ dvds i have. But when i do play bluray, i play it in my xbox (and back then in the ps3). I refuse to buy an actual bluray player. I love my standard dvd player too much. Plus i have a region free one too
@DizzyDesii Well there was this **nice** dvd store which which would rent you 5 dvds for $10 for a week and allow you to swap them over as many times you wanted in the week. In my case every day. So I could rip 5 x7 = 35 dvds a week. Burning to DVD disk was too slow so I got several terabytes of hard disk for efficiency. Got a few.
@DizzyDesii Has to be region free. Just to stuff us up in Australia they put us in the same region as south America. Still a cheap software app fixes that restriction.
Never liked Bluray as it was much harder too crack.
I bought a region free just for my Miraculous Ladybug stuff that came from like Germany or somewhere 🤣 And wow thats a good deal on dvds. Most of mine were $5, $8, $10 or $20 each
@DizzyDesii I thought of it as smart renting - worked out to be 22 cents each if I swapped twice on saturdays and sundays. Downside was I was to busy at it to actually watch them.:)
Yea everything i bought i’ve watched it nonstop since childhood or teen years so i barely watch now that i got em on dvd. I didn't start collecting dvds til like 2017
@DizzyDesii After buying my first dvd player I thought it would be good to have a library of maybe 200 fav movies. Overshot a bit. I think I might have been better off with just the 200 as I would watch them more. I think having them is a substitute for watching them in a weird perverted way. I used to photostat academic papers as a substitute for actually reading and understanding them.
So I can understand you barely watching'em now you have on DVD.
Although i burned out on the dvds, i didn't burn out on my cds! Everytime i play one it feels like my first time hearing the songs all over again. I usually play my cds in the game system or dvd player and then blast the tv loud enough for all neighbors to hear
@DizzyDesii I don't need to play cds anymore - a neighbor does that for me. S/he has the same taste so it is a convenience.
Um, how on Earth are they "worthless"? Pop in a VHS tape and you're free to simply fast-forward past that obnoxious anti-piracy warning from fifteen years before I was born, saying that INTERPOL is "concerned" about piracy; can't do that on any later tech. And of course, they can't sneakily "edit" existing tapes or discs that've already been sold (unless blue-rays don't work the way I think they do); no removing Daryl Hannah's butt or taking out socially or politically "objectionable" content with physical media!
They’re kinda pointless now. You can find any movie you want online, whether it’s on a streaming service or you can buy it.
Saves you storage space and the hassle of scratched DVDs that skip.
I still have a whole collection of DVDs in a box somewhere collecting dust. I don’t have a DVD player but I have game systems that can probably play them. But I haven’t had to.
I guess they’re good to have in case your internet goes out for whatever reason. But even then, I’d probably just watch something on my phone
"More importantly, what do I do with mine?"
Sell it. Lot of people seek for VHS recorder, since they aren't produced anymore. I think rotating magnetic head is mechanically complicated and cost few dollars too much in production for China crap manufacturers.
A VHS player could be worth money on eBay. As for a DVD player, it's basically trash. PlayStation and Xbox can all player DVDs, so nobody has any need for a DVD player. I think even Wii could play DVDs
@Zayed_ I see some for $200, but there's others for over $500
Yes, I definitely have my Xbox to do that
Is that a sold price or just sale price? Because there’s a lot of grossly overpriced crap that never sells.
I had a VHS player that I of course no longer used. I put it up for free on a neighborhood type app and someone a few blocks from me snapped it up right away. I should have played a practical joke and left a porno video in it. KIDDING of course... LOL!
My cousin had about 250 DVDs and about the same amount of CDs. I took them and ripped them, and dumped them onto an external hard drive. So he had boxes and boxes of crap, and now it was all on this tiny drive. Then we gave all the boxes to a poor family at Christmas. The family was so excited, and the little rug rats were jumping up and down. Wow, what an awesome Christmas that was for me.
I still have a VHS player but don't use it. I play DVDs from the library all the time. A lot of my games are on DVD too. I have a bunch of music CDs also. I play my own CDs and CDs from the library almost daily. They haven't been replaced and won't for a long time. For that matter I have some vinyl records, but never listen to them.

If you are looking for DVDs I have a few boxes of them & I usually breaking them out during a hurricane when the Internet goes down. VHS Tapes I have a few & I do have a VCR in the attic as well. I have floppy disks as well.
I still have a VHS machine set up and it still works. Every once in a while I might watch an old movie I taped off the air many years ago. I still rent DVDs from Redbox and Netflix and watch them. I do not have cable TV in my summer house so I use old tech.
I still have mine. I have about 50-100 vhs tapes and a vcr but haven't used it since mid 2000s. As for dvds, i still collect/watch them and have over 1000
they became completely pointless. if you have private memories, it's best to digitalize them and have them stored in different places to make sure they're not lost.
if it's just movies, then chances are you'll find a better quality illegal steam of each of these movies online in 5 minutes anyway.
Lol what do you mean? You can still use them. Most modern TVs still have A/V hookups.
That is very true. I just probably need to find a player. I just hope that the film that the tape is on doesn’t mess up.
:) 👍
They ended up in boxes coated with dust and unopened drawers... I think I still have a few sitting around.
I have a bunch and a player. Interested, lmk. I'll include the tapes. you can watch old scratchy movies, but they had more character that way.
No idea if it works, but at last check it did. I don't have a TV.
DVD's and Blu-rays still exist. I buy them all the time.
Its called planned obsolete,
They make things obsolete on proposes. So they can bring in things that make you spend money on and now they make everything to spy on you.
Hold on to the old technology, if it works why get rid of it
Don't throw away old technology. You can still buy old technology. Even Windows 95 if you want to play some really old games. Desktops with CD and floppy disc drives.
All of mine are in a box in the basement somewhere.
I'd say keep your hard copies because you don't truly control your access to things you need internet or a subscription to view.
VHS players and DVD players still work. If you want, you can transfer them to memory sticks. You can pay to have that done ir do it yourself.
I still have them lol but they are if no use.
One day they become obsolete technology but I still have a VHS player with me :)
Depends on what’s on them. If they’re worth keeping the video, there are ways to convert to digital files. I recently digitized all my old childhood bday tapes in exchange for my mother never talking about them again. Ever.
Why would you buy a VHS? Have you had to rewind tapes? It’s not fun. What about DVDs? Ever lost your DVD or had it scratched to the point it no longer works?
why all the extra equipment when you can download it now?
They get put onto Cloud and NAS drives
That’s pretty cool how do you do this?
I digitized all of mine. So much easier to watch from External Hard Drives with everything organized by category and name.
Once I have archived those that are unique online, I discard them.
For that I have an VHS player that I can connect directly to my computer, and watch it on the VLC media player itself.
This stuff is NOT worthless. If you really don't want it I will take it!
That ish is been outdated for about 20 years already.
Streaming eliminated them
What are you talking about I have tons of dvds
I still using those of things
Replaced with blu ray and wireless
DVD's then game systems and now streaming lol
collecting dust
Landfill
Streaming happened
