No, because DVD is much better. I gave up DVDs for maybe 6 years but starting to stock up on them again now as streaming stuff becomes a joke.

Yes, VHS was great back in the day but it took time to rewind tapes (a long time, as I recall) and sometimes the tape would break and be a pain in the butt to fix. Also the quality level sucked -- well, kind of. What really happened is most VHS units sold had sucky quality. You had to pay 2 to 4 times more for a really good unit that would make a tape look just like a live broadcast. People who copied tapes a lot would get two of the high quality units to copy between.

VHS tapes also take up a lot of room compared to DVD. The downside of DVD is the prices were insane sometimes. Although now you can find cheap DVDs used or even new a lot.

I had the first 3 Die Hard movies in the original case back in the day. Regret giving that away along with my other favorites. But that ship sailed long ago.

@Daniela1982 One of my aunts had a laser disc player when I was a kid... and it was still running just fine decades later. Amazing picture quality. Was like going to the movies. Same aunt had satellite tv back when you needed a 20 foot dish.

My family still have them stored somewhere. They also have a VHS player. Those machines where definitely built to last.

I was very young when everything switched to CDs before it all went digitals and I definitely miss CDs even if technologically what we have now is so much more powerful

Yes and no, I don’t miss the terrible quality of them in comparison to other forms of physical media, but I do enjoy having bits of physical media instead of everything being digital

VHS players are no longer made, by anyone. So most people have given their old tapes to charity or the trash. Plus, all the players I had eventually used to eat and destroy tapes.

Well, I can't say that I miss them, because I still have a jillion of them.

I do wish that it wasn't so expensive or such a chore to transfer them to a more easily used form of playback.

I won't give them up.

It is amazing to me that when I play VHSs these days, that their "quality" is so absolutely horrible.
Even DVDs are now of abominable "quality" to my senses.

Nah I prefer my media not to degrade over time, however if I am feeling nostalgic I actually downloaded some recorded tapes from the internet to have a pseudo 90s TV. I do probably need to buy a recorder to preserve the old tapes and digitize them, but I don't even know where they are.

I still have a collection of video tapes... mostly of the family. I'm in the process of getting them copied digitally.

I sold all my movie video tapes at a garage sale a few years ago, $1 each. I was surprised how fast they went.

VHS tapes had to be rewound. They had terrible quality after a short use from the magnetic coating being rubbed off, from stretching, from other magnetic devices ruining the tape. When there was nothing else, they were better than nothing. But I don't miss what was pretty bad over all!

Not one bit, they were OK when back in their day, but we have way better technologies like Blu-rays and DVR's. The only real benefit of VHS over more modern technologies, is you could fast forward the commercials.

What a lot of people don't realise, reel to reel tape used in the audio mastering industry can be recreated with Niacam Stereo Video, so it STILL has several uses
