Who remembers these devices?
I remember when it was attached to the tv! lol 😂 📺
when it wasn’t even its own “sold separately” machine. Those were fun. I liked playing with the little door too. Pushing the tape in and pressing the eject button. On repeat! Old unused tapes, I’d pretend to be suitcases 🧳 and the broken ones (not by me), I could pull and understand more how they worked, so when I seen one movie of someone fixing the tape with some type of screwdriver 🪛 fixing the ‘tape reel’ (essentially) 🎞️, I understood even more, how the whole process worked. I also loved flipping open the cap and watching it snap shut. Messing with the button and I believe pressing the two doughnuts down like buttons. The whole process was fun. 🤩 😂
Not anymore. But I remember how fun it was to go to Blockbuster and peruse the aisles. Just getting off your ass and doing something, was kind of exciting, It was like a treasure hunt.
Now I can get anything with a couple of mouse clicks. I'm not complaining, but I do kind of miss the treasure hunt.
Right did you see do you see how subtle they were in pulling that off, controlling people, that keeping you in your home. But of course they will say well it's more convenient now. The devil is subtle and slick
@RetroReviews
I'm not sure what you mean.
@applepie409 as the technology progressed to where they made it possible to watch movies at home without the need to go out to a video store this was my design the government was all for that. They want to keep people in their homes as much as possible. It's called conditioning getting them used to what's coming so like when the pandemic happened while you're in your home a lot anyway so right... So in the future there's going to be stuff that goes down maybe martial law was declared so it's like well people's already been conditioned to stay in their homes anyway so it's not going to be met with that much resistance. So Netflix and all the other streaming services making Blockbuster and the video rental stores close was by design but they did it subtly over time so people just thought this was a natural progression no harm in it actually they would say look at all the benefits we save money we don't have to spend gas to go get the movie and more gas to return it or pay late fees see they always come up with positive reasons for you to do it just like they're going to come up with positive reasons for you to put a microchip in your hand that way you don't have to have your phone or your wallet to pay for something. Nothing is by accident or coincidence
@RetroReviews
How can you survive if you're not rich or don't have a job?
The universal government income that will be forthcoming
@RetroReviews
When I say that, people want to kill me. lol
Times change. We no longer ride horses to work.
There was an episode of Star Trek the Next Generation. They found 3 pods floating in space. They beamed them into the ship. They were cryogenically frozen people. They thawed them out and the people from our day had lots of questions. One guy was a businessman. He asked captain Picard how much money a star ship captain makes. Picard had no clue what he was talking about. The Android had to explain to him what money was.
But if you talk about it on this goofy site, people will call you a lazy loser. 20+ years ago, my Dad took me to a bread factory to pick up stuff for his work.

You would have to be a complete idiot to think that humans can compete with machines. Machines will take over every job.
Yeah definitely the machines and technology are taking over I mean when you go inside McDonald's or Taco Bell they want you to interact and place your order on the screen and not with a person anymore or they're pushing you to place them your order on mobile app on your phone so a human is not required to take your order. So to me it's easy to see that the technology and machines is going to do away with jobs but they just keep doing it and pushing it further. The last 15 years or so there's been a huge technology push I mean if you want to save money at the grocery store you have to download coupons now for crying out loud
I sure do I'm going to guess and say I have around 1,500 VHS tapes and 3 working VCRs yes I still watch them two of the VCRs are independent units the one is built in a 13 inch CRT TV. I watch shows or movies on VHS every week Saturday is Sherlock Holmes Saturday I watch either the Granada series starring Jeremy Brett or the universal series black and white with Basil Rathbone starring as Holmes I have every episode of both series on VHS the Granada series was released by MPI home video and the universal series released by Key video
Thanks for the MHO
We have one still hooked up to the TV in the spare bedroom. My son sometimes watches movies my wife and I still have from our childhood on it. It's a bit slower paced than what he can watch on modern streaming services, which is a good thing in my opinion.
Keep it retro 😎

I have some VHS, SVHS, Hi-8, etc., but only because some of my clients are older and occasionally have home videos on tape that they want digitized. I do it as a courtesy for them, which helps keep them loyal when the competition goes knocking on their doors.
What's your line of work? You mentioned clients
I have the tapes and the VCR. It's a Sony dual CD/VHS system. Still works perfectly. Some movies are best played on the old systems.
Agreed. Got to love the DVD VCR combo player
My wife and I have a VHS and a CD/DVD player. I listen to CDs from my large music collection sometimes and also listen to CDs in my car. We have a lot of VHS tapes and DVDs, but haven't used the machines for quite a few years.
Don't expect a reply from this Asperger's case.
Yes a huge collection but haven't used it in at least 5 years
Aww show it some love lol
I still have a nice VHS setup and ~100 original tapes (some of them rare), but not used in the last few years.
Yes, we do have some videotapes. Yes, there are a couple of VCR's lurking in the basement. Heck, I have a 8-track on the stereo int he basement! Great sound, even though we don't have 8-tracks so can't use that feature.
I still have a VCR and I still have tapes. I cannot remember the last time I used it.
Is the VCR still hooked up to a TV where you could pop a tape in and play it right now
@RetroReviews Yes, it is in my home theater room ready for the return of Blockbuster.
That's awesome!
Ya we do I have a big collection of them still, I miss how good the sound quality used to be on vhs
Right on that's why I still actively watch movies on VHS because of that high fi stereo sound kicks ass. And the video is still good enough for me actually to me watching movies on a VHS has a certain charm to it
VCR yes. No more tapes but it's a combo unit with CD player and it's from the Clinton administration.
We still have one, but we never use it.
I still have a working VCR and lots of VHS tapes.
@thespacegnome, awesome good to know I'm not the only active user of the VHS format
I still have VHS tapes but my VCR stopped working a long time ago
Surprising a person that's young as you are had a vcr and VHS tapes
I still have lots of videos and a video TV. I have a lot of old products as it happens.
Of course. They are still used.
Some people you know the HD freaks will laugh when I say I watch movies on VHS
Nah my parents do tho
@Apple1996 you got cool parents 😎
not anymore, no
My grandma does
I do, but they don't work
Maybe you need a new VCR they're easy to find a new one
@RetroReviews They still sell those?
You can find them at thrift stores and yard sales if that don't work then good old trusty eBay is a good source you can find new and used on eBay. If you want a brand new one that's never been used it will be pricey but I have bought many used VCRs and they worked fine just look at the pictures closely read the description and don't hesitate to ask the seller questions flat out ask them does it work does it have any issues if they say they don't know they're not sure cuz they don't have a way to test it don't do it you're taking a Gamble. Make sure they tell you or the ad says tested and works fine no issues
Yes but we don't have a means to play them anymore
If you really want a VCR re sometimes you can get in that thrift stores or yard sales and if that no luck there then you can get one on good old trusty eBay there's tons of them on there
