The interesting point, I think, is that it's going to push for more space exploration. Deuterium and tritium emit radiation that can't be magnetically contained; helium-3 doesn't have that problem, and could give us genuinely clean power (well, mostly; kickstarting a fusion reactor isn't exactly a low-energy process, and you'll have to every time you shut it down for maintenance). It's rare on Earth, but there's plenty on the Moon.

anyway it is a very efficient way to heat water and carry fuel in ships.

we should use more of it to replace coal and oil. despite the product. it is relatively less mass.

Fusion is the only way for satisfy energy demand in the future. For interplanetar or interstellar travels will be energy levels necessary we can't achieve without fusion. Mastering controlled nuclear fusion is the only way we can achieve higher civilization level.

It's pretty much the holy grail of energy production. a very fascinating, even if very expensive, development. I really hope we can succeed there, it would solve so many problems at once.

It will eventually happen, the JET nuclear Fusion reactor has set various records in its 40 year life. It is now being decommissioned and a new one built in France to become the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).
