Why do some people only start caring about messages once it's deleted?

So when messages are left on read or are completely ignored but as soon as the same message is deleted, the people who previously ignored the message, start to hyper-focus on the message, why is that? I've noticed this happening multiple times, with multiple people sometimes and over the years... I didn't pay much attention to it until I realised that some do this on purpose...

You mean the vanishing messages option on whatsapp right?

It could be on anything, snapchat, instagram, whatsapp etc.
Whether it's in a one on one chat or a group chat

Okay I only use whatsapp. And I haven't used that vanishing messages option. I think I'll try it to see how people respond to it

I mean on whats app it would just the delete button.. So the trash can / trashbin icon on whatsapp in order to delete the message

It has both the options actually. But yeah if you delete the messages on your own, then people will think you're pissed because of them not replying to it
