Do you think AI is being over hyped?

I heard today that the recent gains in the stock market have been fueled by Artificial Intelligence. I do not think AI is the game changer that it is claimed to be. A lot of the hype is to attract investors.

there is no intelligence in the AI yet :D

so... we have advanced algorithms that can analyze decisions that until now were made by people... and as we have access to ONLY one line of events (i. e., we can't say what would happen if in 2000 dot-coms didn't go bankrupt), it's kind of limiting lol

so our algorithms aggregate data, count the probability of some events, and... make some decisions :D

for now, it's the best in deterministic fields like analyzing medical images and finding pathologies, analyzing calculations, and finding errors... it still makes mistakes, but in deterministic fields, it's easy to find and fix

it's terrible in any area where experience and intuition are needed :D

I think this is a classic situation of FAFO. Has irobot taught us all nothing? Either AI will advance so much that people will use it to commit crimes (because humans are terrible), or they'll eventually become so popular that they replace every essential job and we all GO INTO ANARCHY AHHH!

You need to clean your ears then, as you heard wrong. There is INVESTMENT in AI as more work is put into making it more accessible without having a coding background.

But like any new technology it's held back more by laws and regulation than usability.
