They will never be able to recreate a wooly mammoth or a mastodon. Given current technology we are orders of magnitude away from that. We lack the full genome. It's theoretically possible to use the DNA to have a elephant will wooly mammoth features. But it will not be the same animal. Genetically or physically. Unfortunately
I think there goal is to create a functional mammoth not the woolly mammoth that existed years ago. The woolly mammoth from the past would just probably die out.
So there goal is to create woolly mammoth 2.0. They want make a functional mammoth.
I agree but the mammoth and wooly mammoth are really the same animal. Elephants are the closest living mammal. So unfortunately it's really about trying to get coax and elephant to have mammoth features. It won't be like Jurassic Park dinosaurs with frog DNA. More like a frog with dino DNA.
Doesn't matter, as, they will be getting shut down eventually. Their US funding will be withdrawn.
How many do I need for a nice woolly jumper?
