What operating system do you use for your computer and why?

Mac suck and are expensive. I want a windows in my next one. Linux is awful.

Sorry, I've had macs since 1986. They're easy in my opinion. I've worked on Dells and other PCs, but if there was ever anything wrong, I'd have to call an IT administrator and wait a long time to address the issue.

WIth my Macs, I'm the administrator, there's Applecare that you can get on the phone at reasonable hours and they solve your issues 98% of the time simply and easily.

Yep, they cost more, but the phone support and ease of use for me makes them a top choice.

I drove Corollas from 1995 until 2021. Hondas always cost several thousand dollars more, so I never got one. Finally found a used one for the right price, and I know why they cost more. Better paint, roomier. Like the standard shift model I found. A bit sturdier than the Corolla. I

I'd say that's the difference between a Mac and a PC. PCs aren't bad, just a more difficult for users to troubleshoot, and have less ease of support. I had a used Macbook Pro that worked for 10 years. A tower that I had for 7. The only reason I had to get another computer was because the operating systems became obsolete, I could not expand the RAM or hard drive, or the OS was outdated.

I've heard that Linux is the most stable OS. What's been your trouble with it?

Bought a new laptop a few months ago. Running Windows 11. It's solid, stable. Migration was easy. My only gripes are...

• Microsoft trying to force me to use their Edge browser and their Bing search engine by default. It took a few minutes but I found the settings to stop Windows 11 from hijacking me constantly.
• Microsoft desperately throwing their fucking useless AI at me. Got rid of that too. Yes I know your OS now has an AI tool. I will choose when I want it cluttering up my screen thank you. The one useful thing I've found is the AI can enter a complex Excel formula syntax from a spoken command. It's nice to avoid the typing, open/close parentheses, etc.

All in all, Windows 11 is easy to use, looks good, is stable, and pretty much an invisible partner. Just a little annoying at times until you get around to turning off all the marketing bullshit nobody asked for.

Linux is the most stable, secure, flexible, customizable, and cheapest. It has pretty everything most people would need for free. After that I'd say MAC has the best stability and security being that it's based on BSD, but they support pretty much nothing except their own internal software. Windows is the biggest commercial OS, thus there are a lot of commercial applications that you can burn thousands of dollars a year on to get the same features as Linux has for free. You also get reduced stability, security, and customization for that price. Pretty much the only benefit of Windows is bread and circus. Video games tend to be developed for the Windows market first, but steam proton has fixed most of that for the Linux market.

Currently on my Desktop I just have windows since it's mostly use for gaming and my laptop I have it dual booting windows and fedora. Linux isn't that awful, just have to find different distros till you find one you like. On my laptop I prefer fedora over windows since it's lighter on resources and provides a much more fluid user experience.

I run Linux Mint the most. SparkyLinux when I want something really light. And Windows when I need to do something with the hardware that Linux won't do.

linux is hard. why do you use 2 operating systems? linux is mostly for the workplace.

@robocop666 Linux Mint is not a hard OS. After you understand it, it is easier than Windows. Anyways, Microsoft created the FAT file system which has become the standard for USB drives. Sometimes that file system can get messed up. Windows has a check disk feature that can fix it. Linux does not have that. Also many devices require Windows to run their software. So I have a few reasons for running Windows. But I spend the majority of my time on Linux.

I used MacOS (9 and X) for 15 years and liked it a lot. Steve Jobs and his raging RDF decisions screwed that up for me. Now I am on Windows 10 (😵).
