So I'm again trying to publish my board game without getting ripped off. I found a publisher which is highly rated by Google AI, and they claim that if you can get a potential customer to make a $1 down payment on a book or game ahead of time, then that person is 30X more likely to go ahead and buy the product compared to someone who made no down payment at all.
Do you think this claim is true? Evidently, this is how the company does it's marketing and product/buyer funneling.

Seems like a legit marketing strategy. I do know the stats are less than one person ever reads all the published papers and books. In other words there are way to many published materials.
This is going to be a game, which is sort of like Axis and Allies except better and designed for ages 14 and up. If I could get a $1 pledge from 2000 people, it would cover the cost of advertising and publishing. I'm waiting on a phone call to talk to the publicist right now.
Good luck. If you got 1000 people you could still make it and borrow the other $1,000.
