There are two basic types of computer keyboards: QWERTY and ABC, which defines the way he keys are arranged. The QWERTY keyboard also has US and UK versions, as well as versions for other countries and languages.

First querty is stupid. Apparently it was PLANNED to compel slow typing so the letter arms in old typewriters would not get stuck... like in the 1980s! But keeping it NOW just for tradition...

and teaching typing on it is insanity. To insist on inefficiency is insanity! and worse the MOST frequent letters are for the weakest fingers! A+S for weakest of left hand.

That abc is wonderful for finding letters typing one by one for MOST people because didn’t learn typing. I would prefer that abc. For most people that is superb.

Microsoft has a "keyboard layout creator" in theory someone can put those most common letters "E, A, S, T, O, N" for the stronger fingers, on each hand. A real improvement would reorder all letters so least frequent letters q, z, x would be for weak fingers while finding places for those letters between rare and frequent then patent and sell an app with the layout... but not for phones and not for offices who insist on traditional so that seems a waste.

If you are a genius you can use a, s with left hand strong fingers, and right hand for all over but then you need to look and be a righty. So qwerty is stupid in four ways!

Qwerty. But we have German customers that use qwertz.

And French who use azerty.

We have many different keyboard configurations because of special charters. ą, ę, ż, ź, ó, ł, ć, ń, ś
I prefer one that is similar to standard QWERTY and ALT key as addition to a, e, z, o, l, c, n, s for polish special signs. The only exception is ź that is x+ALT. However there are other layouts but somehow I haven't see them since IT lesson on old PCs. Some programs make trouble. As example AMD driver opens telemetry when pressing ALT+S for ś and OpenOffice starts document setup.

UK keyboard. Spare a thought for countries that use letters such as â î ô û ŵ ŷ and the like. Bit of a pain on a standard keyboard.

We're a bilingual nation. Stuff like signs and documents have to be available in both languages. Same if you have an appointment, you can insist on it being carried out in either language.

I learned on a qwerty board, but i’m still basically just an advanced hunter-pecker. I could get by with anything. Especially with autocomplete and predictive text on everything, you really only need to find the first few letters of the most complex key words. Then autocomplete finishes that word and predictive text sets up the most likely next words in your thought.
Is anyone even using typewriters anymore? Every word processor available can do what your phone does with every text message. I know several people who use talk to text exclusively now. Keyboards are on the verge of going extinct entirely.

I have never used any other type besides qwerty US. Mostly because that is what is available here.
