Now in order to have full use of some of the electronic features on some new cars, you need to pay a monthly subscription fee. It was bad enough that for a lot of home software now you have to pay monthly/annually to keep using it - it used to be when you bought, say, MS Office, you owned that version; now they want you to pay every year. In that particular instance you can still buy it for a one-time price but without support and for a much higher price.

That £120 you pay for Office is about 3 years worth of subscription, or something like that. So after 3 years of subscription you end up paying more.

But they're all parasites.

Microsoft is the worst. Youtube is not far behind.

Absolutely. I try to avoid it whenever I can. Office is actually one you can avoid if you'd like. The old style licenses are available, although a slightly different version. If you buy a regular license of for example Office 2021 then thats all you will get. It won't update itself beyond the features that are in the 2021 version, but on the plus side its not a subscription.

Just stop using their products. If Microsoft wants subscription fees for MS Office, then go to LibreOffice for free and pay no subscriptions. I didn't get sick of the "subscription model" because I refused to ever take part in it. It's weird how so many people just did what they were told and gave away all their money for no good reason. You know you don't have to buy their products right?

one of the main reasons is because contracts... for example

when a single, simple knob is faulty on any warship or warplane... one single KNOB that needs to be replaced to get fixed would cost the armed forces engineers just 15 dollars to make/repair themselves but, can they do it?

no... they cannot, not when they are tied to a contract

the military contracts have them obligated to first, pay 47,000+ dollars for the 15 dollar piece, then they have to schedule a repair visitation which can take weeks or months, because only one of their "specialized technician qualified experts" can touch the equipment they sold to the military under contract

every Congress... every bipartisan effort, has been crushed down and denied

I'm starting to wonder if this is why second-hand car prices are approaching new car prices over here. I don't want my car to be a mobile phone and tracker, either.

@goaded There are some cars that for various reasons are sold at a premium. My son had a Jeep Cherokee that was built the last year that they had mechanical transfer cases. He put it out in front of his house with a for sale sign on it. It was sold the same day.
You would think that carmakers would pay attention to this.
