What brand of stereo sound system do you have growing up in your home?

We didn't have a real stereo until the `70's.
Dad had this big blonde Philco thing about 6' long and at least 2' tall and maybe 16" deep and had sliding doors across the font and the turntable could also slide out of the box about 6 or 8" as it was playing. It WAS a pretty neat machine! I'm pretty sure he bought it in the late `50's, from what I recall, it's ALWAYS been a part of the living room!! It also had a radio in it. It sounded pretty good, only problem was, it wasn't really stereo! We never found that out until YEARS later!! It HAD two speakers: one on each end but, the one on the left took care of the bass and the one on the right took care of the treble!! It was really a mono player but had the speakers spread about 5" apart to make it LOOK like a stereo!!
At some point in the mid to late `70's, he bought a real stereo made by Toshiba. I don't recall what he did with the Philco.
Come to think of it, we actually DID have a stereo player in the late `60's at camp; my grandmother's summer home.
Well, I got more use out of the Toshiba than dad because I had a few hundred records by then and he only had about 50 and I was often recording my collection to tape so I could play it in my room.
I started going to college in the mid `80's as a music major and, since I had loads of spare cash from a PHEAA loan and a grant, I figured, I'm gonna NEED a stereo so, I went to a stereo shop and bought one! JVC turntable, Teac cassette deck and I think the amp was Pioneer. I had some older speakers sitting around so, I just used those.
except for the Teac and the speakers, I still have the same set-up! I've had to replace the Teac a time or two and I added a Tascam CD recorder and a Teac 10" open reel deck that can play forwards and back and switch sides by itself at the end of a tape side and it has a remote control. And, I have a set of Bose speakers, now.

I had a Technics direct drive turntable, a pair of KLH 6 speakers, an Advent 201 Cassette deck, a Sony reel to reel deck, and this receiver that I still use. A Scott 401 .

Sony. Its amazing when you think about how your stereo, cd collection, dvd/vhs collection, tv unit etc were litteraly part of the furniture.

Weve an old record player as part of the furniture because our living room was practically empty and lacking charcter. TV is on the wall.

It was a "custom-made" (mono system, actually) that had Jensen speakers, a reverb chamber giving a slight stereo effect, and a Fisher Knight receiver/amplifier. It was in three piece for the living room. Center piece was a TV. Right piece was the receiver/amp and turntable, with bookcase (more on that in a second). Left piece was the speakers. All had matching fronts. Top two thirds was birch veneer plywood and the bottom third had brown grille cloth. The bottom left had the speakers. The bottom on the right was fake and hid a drop down door, behind which was our encyclopedia (World Book, of course). The TV cabinet had a matching door- top veneer, bottom grille cloth- but my folks hardly ever used it since it was a hassle to take off/store/replace.

I don't remember what the other components were, but the amplifier was an old 100W Eico HF-20. I still have it but it hasn't worked in ages. It's an old tube amplifier with big heavy transformers.
