I'd like to know what the cats eat. I doubt there are any birds or rodent left on the island. As the residents die the cats will starve to death or eat each other. It's like in India who won't eat cows and who feed rats instead of exterminating the vermin because they think they are relatives spirts inhabiting them. You think to yourself. . .

No. It's a horrible place. The cats are diseased and suffering an endless cycle of over-breeding and dying young. They also often only get fed by tourists. Can you imagine how many died of starvation over covid? Unfortunately unlike other cat islands the government has yet to step in to do catch neuter release programs which would help this issue greatly.

  @Still-alive I think most people don't realize how awful it is until they go there. Most of the pictures you see from the island are "normal" looking cats because nobody wants to take photos of the kittens with their eyes glued shut or mucus coming out of their noses, covered in mange and fleas, suffering from feline HIV. It's so sad and disappointing that nothing is getting done about it and people are still treating it as a cool hip tourist attraction. It's like the worlds saddest zoo.
