What makes one pub/club more fun than another?

I overheard a college girl talking to a friend, rating the different pubs in the city in terms of how fun each pub is. What would make one pub more 'fun' than another in your opinion? I mean, aren't they all the same (buy alcohol and talk to people)?

here's some that I go by, but others use even more.

Location - is the area that the club in relatively safe, low crime, low kidnapping rates, etc.

Venue - Is the place large (Can fit 400+), Medium (200-400), Small (100-200), or Very Small (0-100)

Quality - Are the aesthetics nice, does it look new or clean or both? Do the bars look sanitary, is the dancefloor clean?

Security - How many personnel is around? Are they rather large looking or small, is there anyone in the bathroom area watching over people? Do they move around a lot and have good communication?

Music - Is the music something that fits your taste? Do they have it at a volume that's comfortable and enjoyable and makes you want to party and dance.

Customers - What the age demographic? are there mostly middle aged people in the club or really young people? Of course anyone can go clubbing at any age, but its always more comfortable when you are around people close to your age.

And Lastly

The Individual - Everyone is different and experiences a club differently. A hole in the wall to some may be more enjoyable than a huge downtown club with top hit artists. If someone is in a really spectacular place, or a really run down place, and they enjoy it, then they will say it was fun and they had a good time. So long as nobody tried to do anything disrespectful, rude, inappropriate, or inconsiderate to them.

I usually don't use security, and venue much when rating a place. But I wanted to give some examples of things that people subconsciously think about when determining a places worth beyond what I use at least.

Good question. We have a favorite pub on a strip with three or four others. At 10 PM on a Friday, the others are all dead, but it's a 15 minute wait for a table at our favorite. One reason is the staff -- they are warm and welcoming and experienced. The other is just the other people who show up -- it's a pretty attractive bunch. Not big enough to be a great place for singles to meet strangers, although we have had some enjoyable conversations with people sitting next to us at the bar.

Oh, and they have a fantastic bar -- hundreds of spirits and they know what to do with them.

I was at a club where each booth had a phone. You could call other booths, and they could call you. It was a genius way to break the ice.

I don't see the point in wasting time or money in that kind of environment.

We used to have this fav. bar and it was so cause we always went there, we met the most people there and the music was amazing. It was the atmosphere and feeling we had.
They renovated it in Jan. 2017 and since that we never went again tho

It's been a while since I went clubbing, but the best clubs for me were the ones with good atmosphere, reasonably-priced drinks, good music, and not overly crowded.

the people that are in there at that time, 100 miserable people isn't much fun, twp or three that can have fun is greater

They all seem to have a different atmosphere, depending in part on the crowd that normally goes there.

Got me! I never hung out in any unless we were playing there. What makes The Upstage and Pyatt St. Pub Downunder more fun is that they had pool tables I could play before and after the show.

As boring as it sounds, quieter. I want to be able to drink and talk with the people I'm with.

This is the way people are, and you can find one pub/club better than the other.

I don’t really go to them very often, but if I do I go to a local bar where I will know some of the people. Younger people most likely go where there’s other younger single people.
