What are the most underrated and overrated states in the USA?

In my opinion the most underrated state is Michigan by a wide margin and the most overrated is Florida (although California is a close second).

Oceanside views from somewhere in Maine? Nope; Michigan's Great Lakes shorelines (and it's not smelly or crusty).

I’m technically judging books by their covers because i haven't been to a lot of these places. But i think California is overrated. I heard Florida and New York are, but I still want to go. Nevada (Vegas specifically) is overrated but i still want to return. Lousiana (New Orleans specifically) is the second most overrated in my opinion. Tennessee (Nashville specifically) and Georgia (Atlanta specifically) have a few things but I think both might be overrated. Perhaps still great places to love but to just visit? Nah. I think North Carolina and Texas are underrated. there's a lot of interesting things in both places from food to activities. I think the state of Colorado and Washington (not to be confused with Washington DC) are underrated. They are so beautiful. Arizona and Oregon might be underrated. Ohio night be underrated but Toledo ain't much to see. Surprised me.

I won’t say Mississippi is underrated but we are certainly perceived wrong. The state may be the lowest in wages but it is not a poor state. Its a beautiful “retirement” state. There are lots of farms and shit up north while the south has more food festivals and enjoyable oversized casino/hotel combos. We don’t have theme parks but our seasonal state fairs are wonderful. The homecooking and soul food is great but the fast food, not so much. The beach is a dirty fck lmao but its still nice to travel alongside. I wouldn’t recommend people visit but i just wish they’d bash less. If there are a lot of racists, its more so in the northern area because the central and south are very diverse. And the state is big on southern hospitality so most of the racists are closet racists at that than direct ones (which isn’t a good thing but it makes things feel less threatening; and yes there are racists of every color). In other words, no ones gonna turn down money if you want to come inisde their place of business 🤷‍♀️ Outdoor activities like fishing, canoeing, paddle boarding, jetsking, swimming, and hunting are huge here. We have nice lakes surrounded by beautiful expensive homes but its still a nice 30 minute drive through neighborhoods surrounding the lakes. Plus the land here is cheap. Shoot i might work out of state, but i wouldn't mind building a home here.

Over rated is easy. That would be California. A few hundred years ago it would have been great. But millions of people, wacky politics, and horrible companies/job market turned it into a shit hole.

Under rated is more difficult.

I agree that Michigan is under rated. I've vacationed there several times. I've never been to the UP, but it's always been high on my to do list.

Wyoming is under rated. I've seen a lot of people call it one of the worst states. They've obviously never been there.

Oklahoma is under rated. Oklahoma City is very nice as far as cities go.

Maine is under rated. Not that it's rated badly, but it deserves better. Add Vermont and NH.

Wisconsin. OK, so it's cold af, but otherwise very nice.

I'm gonna have to throw in my own state of Ohio. After living in ten states and traveling most of the rest extensively, I chose Ohio as my final home in life. Can't say why. It's hard to explain. I suppose it's an acquired taste. Most people who leave for better pastures end up coming back.

What's your issue with Florida and California? Florida I can still make an argument for, but California's cool, especially once you get into the north coast and the interior of the state.

People hype them up like it's a luxury to sweat in 100+ degree weather and be hit with quakes, forest fires, hurricanes, etc.

A lot of other states are crappy to live in too, but you never hear people promoting those as luxury states.

I'd agree on Florida being overrated but you probably won't like my reasoning because I believe Florida is way too urban.

They need to destroy roads and useless buildings then re-plant trees cause nothing good comes from urbanization. California is still the worst though.

Every Dixieland state is very underrated as they're very rural and allow for plenty of space to escape the city and live a happy life
