I have a question for those who live in countries where they have bears and other wildlife?

So after watching the movie back country which was based loosely on a true story about a bear stalking humans, it made me wonder. Why do people go camping in the woods, where you know very well there are bears living there and wolves and other wildlife that can rip your face off and tear you to pieces?

Why do you deliberately put yourself in such a potential dangerous situation?

I've been around bears and camped, lived in the woods all my life, and not once did a bear show any aggression towards me.

Bears tend to avoid people. The only time they can be a little aggressive is when their cubs are around and they feel threatened, not unlike most women and their children.

The guy in the movie did not know what he was doing and that whole circumstance would never of happen if they'd been more prepared and familiar with backcountry camping.

Bear attacks are extremely rare, most bears will just look at you for a moment, and walk away. Sometimes they even wave. If you have snacks they might steal them. Bears prefer sweets and fish, they don't like wasting energy and almost never chase anything. Even instances of mother bear aggression is overstated, most humans are not threatening enough to most bears to be considered worth attacking. You are more likely to be killed by another human or a pet dog than by a bear.

The reason so many wild bears wave is because of their lack of aggression resulting in people waving at them and feeding them, so its a combination of mimicry and food begging, and a way to test if the person is safe or dangerous. A person who waves back is safe, a person who yells or runs or grabs a weapon after seeing the bear is not.

Not every forest has dangerous predators, and people can bring guns or bear spray to defend themselves.
