Can I tap my Presto card without any funds for the first time?

I remember that Presto lets riders tap their card on any public transit vehicle without having to reload funds if they run out of funds, but only for the first time. On subsequent attempts though, they have to reload their funds or else the terminals will reject the tap and show an error telling the rider to reload. However, I can't seem to find any website that confirms that nor have any AI bots such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Bing AI.

i was right, i was able to tap it and be accepted, but i owe Presto a few dollars; sadly because my fucking bank decided to require 2FA again despite disabling it for my laptop, it still required it (probably because i was connected to a new network). long story short, i broke my phone last week and my bank is a mainly online banking service, so that's why. i had to go to another bank that bought out my bank to withdraw money, but even that was a fucking pain until i called customer service.
