What’s the weather like in Florida in December?

As a former Chicagoan, it never fails to amuse me seeing people wearing parkas (yes, PARKAS) because "it's so cold!" when it's sixty degrees out. These are the same people who'll tell you that snow is an urban legend. I think I've worn my jacket ONCE since coming down here.

But I'm pretty far north; if you're in Miami, or even Tampa, it's going to be still warmer. Check what the local weather is in the specific place you're going; Florida is actually quite large, and the winter weather may vary from "pleasantly warm" to "sweltering".

I am in northeast Florida, so we are a LITTLE bit cooler than Orlando. I found this:

Let's look at the 2022 temperatures. Last year, in Orlando, the daytime high temperatures were mostly in the seventies and low eighties. and the overnight lows were mostly above 50. However, shortly before Christmas, it had a cold snap with a daytime high only in the mid-40's for a few days, and overnight lows near freezing. I wouldn't recommend going to the beach when the temperature is 45° F. unless you are a polar bear!

@ManOnFire No, the humidity drops as we cool off for the late fall and winter. Not horribly humid in December through early April.

Okay, good to know. I'm not a Florida fan lol but lately I am thinking more about visiting at some point, just because it's one of those places you probably should see before you die.

@ManOnFire Like California, Florida is a large and diverse state. You should make it to Key West, Miami, Kennedy Space Center, and St. Augustine. If you want to visit the Gulf Coast, try Destin or Fort Walton Beach.

Weather in Florida is pretty much the same all year long. Hot and humid, with rain showers most days between 4pm and 430pm. It's hotter in summer (mid 90s F) and not so hot in winter (low 80s F).

For a better forecast, just google weather in December for the place (s) you're going to.

Most days during December in central Florida day time temperatures will be between 60 F - 75 F during the day and drop into the 50s F at night time and early morning hours. Occasionally cold fronts come through that drop temps to the 30s and 40s for roughly 3 days at a time, but it's more common in January and February. Typically there are like 2 frosts (nights with temps at 28-32 F) in February, maybe 1 or 2 in January and sometimes 1 in December but not every year.

Winters are relatively dry in Central Florida with clear skies. There might be a couple of days of light rain in December, but for the entire month you can't really expect more than maybe 2 inches of rainfall. Humidity tends to be lower in the winter. Winds tend to pick up in the winter along the coast producing the best swells of the year for surfing.

December is a good time to visit. While we may have a cold front resulting in two days below 70.. most days are over 70 and can be rainy.

At the most pack a sweater or light jacket if you get cool in the AC. But def park swimsuits as our beaches are year round
