It DOES. Hard for it not. There is a lot of history but I'd be spending a lot of time at the street cafes just as I do in my city Melbourne.

I like that it has light rail as my city does. So much better for getting around as they run down streets you want to go to. Convenient. We call them trams, what are they called in France?

There are parts we call the Paris end. I live in the Paris end of my street. Six cafes to the right of my front door and five to the left plus two bars.

I do like the great architecture and art and looks like a nice place but I went to Paris France and the people so rude to me maybe cause I am American or my simple request at a restaurant was not normal there. I asked for a little more ice in my soda and the server insulted because it’s normal to have as much ice in America because they don’t have much water usage because they can’t.

I’ve been to Paris and and Provence. You city does look rather beautiful. I just remember having a horrible experience in Paris that I swore to never return to France.

We're a country of 66 million people, so you're bound to come across some bad people, like in the USA, the UK, etc., but that doesn't represent the majority of people in those countries.

Oddly enough, it wasn’t the French people that I had issues with on Paris. It was more so the city itself. I didn’t come at a good time.

I would like to believe you, but my experience, and that of countless others, has been that French people tend to be rude, arrogant and self-important. I know not all are that way, but there is a reason that perception exists.

Perceptions are not necessarily reality. I was reading a book written by an American and a Canadian, and they lived several months in France, they found the French exactly like you, except that we learn to know the country, they realized that the French were not more rude or nasty than others, but that these perceptions reflect in fact the cultural differences. For example, in France, when you meet someone, go into a store, speak to an employee, etc., you always say "Hello", whereas in the English-speaking world this isn't the case, so when foreign tourists don't say "Hello", etc., they appear vulgar, etc.

The stereotype of Americans in Europe is that they're fat, arrogant with their American flag displayed everywhere, uneducated, etc. Of course, there are Americans like that. but the majority of Americans aren't uncultured etc.

Yes, we Americans certainly have our own problems.

I have never been to France asside from a layover at Charles de Gaulle, and I never left the airport. My experience with French people has been either here in the US or abroad, and my perception of them is based on their behavior relative to the behavior of people from other countries. The difference has been pretty obvious, and there were no misunderstandings or cultural nuances involved. They did not hide their judgment or arrogance.

Having said all of that, you seem very nice. Maybe I should set asside my experiences of the past, give the French a blank slate and visit next time I have the opportunity. I have heard that Parisians are worse than French from other areas. Perhaps all the French I have met were from Paris? :)

Thank you very much ☺️ well between each French region the French don't like each other very much haha. But it's true that the different French regions have a common enemy which is Paris 🤣 Because Parisians are considered arrogant and contemptuous towards the other French regions.

Parisians tend to think that other French regions are underdeveloped, uncultured, etc., and that they represent culture, good taste, etc. .

But then again, in Paris as elsewhere, there are all kinds of people. That's why I'm wary of generalizations.

Well, if you ever get the chance to visit France , try it. If you try to speak a little French, however imperfectly, and don't forget the "Bonjour", then things should go well.

There really are some very pretty places in France, like Annecy and so on. I don't know whether your experience will be good or bad. But I think that in any case it will be an experience for you.

Haha don't show your historical ignorance on this subject , in Bordeaux we have vestiges that date back to antiquity , Gallic and Roman , we also have cathedrals and medieval monuments. And some extremely modern monuments. And there are so many different things to do in this city. Above all, Bordeaux is not Baroque but Hausmannian.

I grab good deals when I can and when it comes to everyday life, I don't spend money when I don't need to.
Also, international travel costs half the price of domestic travel.

@RyanEC we just came back (family of 4) from a 7 1/2 week trip from Europe. It’s not too bad. Learn to invest most of your money that you have now.
Avoid going Paris July/augu. next summer due to the Olympics. Unless you want/like.
Italy, Spain, Portugal is not too expensive. France kinda like the US.
We rented a car for a month and drive around a few countries, cost is $1500. Lodging has moderate options.
Go out there and see the world…meet people. It is really amazing to learn how much freedom we take for granted.

@midnightmoon05 The Olympics are "officially" host by Paris, however, there will be events all over the country, especially football and rugby matches, so I would avoid France entirely, unless you want to experience the Olympics.

I was just in Italy in October and I beg to differ about it not being expensive. The airfare to Rome isn't too expensive, but once you're actually in Italy, everything else is, unless you go to the far south.

We didn’t fly into Rome for those reasons. Too crowed too touristy too expensive.
flight was cheaper to go into Norway from NY. We were mostly around the alps (Italy, France, Switzerland) and the weather was very comfortable. Switzerland was very expensive, we are aware.
My son who is 14 created a mental budget to visit Europe in 2 years with his friends. A 2 week trip will cost them about $3500-$4k and he is planing to work to pay for his trip.
