Since I'm in France, since I observed some of its villages then I see a difference between how I relate to architecture and how I relate to people. I've seen places like that, looking like a postcard. But the people inside, they may represent an entirely different story. A not so sweet one. Because people can be nauseating when they are comfortably insulated. Lost in time.

Brassens is a man of the left it is logical that he is written this, but allow me to disagree with this criticism, not on the villages because the criticism that Brassens fair here is a criticism of patriotism

Perspectives then. Patriotism, when it is healthy, that is, open to the world, count on me. What we see here though, in this specific song, is a finger pointed at a proud insulation. And idiocy coming with it. This is politically oriented, yet it describes a facet of people's reality. A facet of patriotism we often get to see in these lands.

Do not count on me to praise patriotism by default, because patriotism, often enough, copulates with idiocy. Here, and elsewhere.

But in truth, countries have always been "open", with a few exceptions, and patriotism has always been very present.

Looks more British than French. If I'm completely honest with you, I don't like it. I'm not a huge fan of brick architecture. Like if I was in France, or even in this region, I wouldn't put it on my itinerary. Maybe only for the geology.

Well, in the US I'm sure there are lots of incredible villages.

Yeah, but they are hit and miss and don't have that kind of old world European charm. They are either normal small towns, really nice and really expensive, or really run down and dirt poor, full of tweakers. I always watch this YouTube channel called "Joe and Nic's Road Trip" and they drive around the country touring mostly small towns. I'm trying to find one to move to that's not expensive but not too run down and not full of tweakers
