What are your recommendations for furnishing a new apartment from scratch after relocating to a new city?

I personally would not buy any expensive furniture as long as you don't know whether this place will be a permanent place or whether you have to relocated in 5-10 years from now.

You would be better off to rent a furnished apartment or then to buy those cheap furniture made by a Swedish furniture company. Those are relatively easy to afford and have a life shelf of about 10 years if taken good care.

There is no need to invest heavily on any furniture if you are not planning to live at this location permanently or at least for an extended time.
