Do you think trains are an underrated transportation?

In North America, everybody wants to drive a truck. Here in Europe, everybody likes cars and bikes.

Many people would also like to buy a boat, and coast about being sailors. And there are many pilots and aviation enthusiasts.

Trains? Apart from riding the Metro or Tube or Subway, nobody really cares about them. And nobody wishes to become an engineer, conductor or railway worker.

I think trains are great. 🚂🚂🚃🚄🚅🚆🚇♥️

The US is way behind the rest of the world in rail transportation. China has a huge high-speed rail network and almost every city in China has a Metro system. In Europe, the main way to get around is by train, some of it high-speed. France has canceled some short-range flights in favor of train travel.

In the US, only a few cities have metro systems, and the only high-speed rail is in Florida; between DC and Boston is pseudo-high speed.

It's sad that, at one time, in the mid 20th Century, the US had one of the best rail transportation systems in the world. The automobile and planes killed it.

here in germany they are fucking overrated! in the media they keep blathering about how oh so green and sustainable taking the train is but if you ever actually wanna use the train, you get delays, miss connections (often because of the delays) and in rush hours, you won't even get a seat. it's overall a horrible experience and you're typically at least an hour late to whatever you wanted to be at.

oh and i forgot: you don't even save money compared to just drying by car.

for that you need a massive scale of sustainable forrestry which isn't an option for countries with a high population density.

I have family in New York and I take the AmTrak train from Cleveland to Albany occasionally. It's typically around $170US. But, it's a bitch of a ride taking approx 10hrs (if no delays) compared to a 7hr drive or 1hr flight.

I like the light rail trains but i dislike the amtraks and actual railroad stuff. They wobble and rock like a cradle and give me motion sickness

I live in Belgium and I use trains a lot for longer distances. With a car you get stuck in traffic jams. Train delays you have to take with it.

Long distances trains travel. No traffic, more toilet and leg room than on a plane... and... snack car
