Nope... but I would. Sad to say, but I would probably profile the person before letting them hitchhike. I remember when I was in BC, everyone was more of a community and hitchhiking there. And in the specific area I was in, not too many people had cars. But to get places you needed for walk for hours and hours, so everyone who had a car just helped out when they could.
I live in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada and when I'm walking back home and it's been hours of coming from a hike, sometimes I'll try to hitchhike for fun and curiosity to see if anyone is nice enough. I've had no such luck and there was even a lady cop that stopped once and came out of her vehicle to tell me "It's dangerous to do that and I shouldn't." It was like 2am and I was like 24 at the time and thought to myself "I can handle myself lady" 😂

I used to hitchhike all over the place. I never had a problem getting rides. Then in the 90s I had to take my truck to get fixed and rhe place was in the next town. I just figured I would hitch a ride home. So I walked and I walked. Two hours later I got home. My wife could not imagine what had happened. This was before cell phones. I realized that the world had changed since the last time I hitchhiked.. I used to pick up people all the time. Now with all the nuts running around even if I saw a hitchhiker which you never do I would not stop.
I was on both sides :D
as a driver picking up a hitchhiker and as a hitchhiker looking for a ride :D
I survived :D
Yes, a few times.

I have; it was while I was in high school. Me and a couple friends were leaving a fast food place after school, and he was less an actual hitchhiker and more like a guy who asked for a ride a few blocks down. My friend who had been riding with me got spooked though and instead of going with me and the guy, crammed into another friend's car. Me and the guy drove together to where he was trying to get to, and he seemed nice enough.
Sometimes I wonder if he actually thought I or anyone would give him a ride, and even if he considered robbing me (I went to school in a pretty bad area and he seemed like he almost made up the spot where he was trying to get dropped off). I like to think though that because I engaged in conversation with him, everything turned out well.
In the 1970s, I picked up hitchhikers several times. I even had one awesome experience in the back seat when picked up by four girls.
I've also hitched rides quite a few times. I had one awesome experience giving three girls a ride, too.
It's really nice when people are willing to help out.Ohh yes , many many many times in the old days , and hitch- hiked myself all over the place , have not seen a hitchhiker to pick up in many many years however , seems to be a thing of the past , certainly where I'm from.
And dont think I've seen one ever in Thailand , the above all happened in Australia.
I think the last time I did that was about 30 years ago. I wouldn't do it in today's world. I remember when I was around 20 I did not know that a lot of women hitchhiking were prostitutes. I picked up a young lady about my age and she asked if I wanted her services for money. I said that I wasn't interested and she had me drop her off at the next corner, which of course I did.
I've picked up lots of hitch-hikers. I've been picked up a lot more times. I estimate I've hitched around 12-15K miles.
My longest ride was 1700 miles.
Longest time with someone who picked me up was five days.
Longest wait to get a ride was nine hours.I don't see many hitch-hikers in the US any more. But then I'm not on the road much any more. I think it's more common in some other places. I would still pick them up if I saw any and could pull over safely.
I don't know if this counts...
After buying groceries, I started driving home and saw a woman walking, carrying several bags of groceries. I offered her a ride home and she accepted.Yes, I have done that, particularly on the 101 and the 99 roads running from San Francisco to Los Angeles and back. I've not done it in many years however.
I've been driving for quite a while now, and I've never actually seen a hitch-hiker. I didn't think they still existed.
I have. It’s rather common in Pemba Island if you’re going to town to offer a ride to someone on the street. I would never do it anywhere else.
I do not recall ever seeing a hitchhiker except on screen.
Two or three times. They were interesting people.
Not in about 20 years now. I had a bad experience. Some guy tried to mug me & steal my truck.
Used to hitchhike and pick up hitchhikers all the time.
I picked up two Europeans hitchhiking around the world and drove them 200 miles.
all the time both boys and girls and way back I hitchhiked all over Europe.
and once got a lift back to uk from naples ItalyYeah I picked up this dude stranded on the freeway once; he was cool
Back in the 70's when it was still safe to do that.
Nope, bad idea haha
I did, it was a bit weird. I survived.
