Generally speaking they are very safe. But if you were to have met Manfred von Richthofen, aka the "Red Baron", you would not have been safe. He shot down 80 men during the last World War. Thank goodness a beagle named Snoopy shot him down.
@red_arrow good point
Safer than a motor bike statistically
As long as you are not on a Boeing 737 MAX. Otherwise, make out your will before you fly in one. Or on this contraption either. 😖
I’m thinking about that too
Is that the helicopter 🚁 that crashed in Japan?
You are more safe in a airplane than you are in a car
I heard that before
My favourite thing is getting off the plane not a fan of flying I can be an anxious passenger but I’ll get something to distract me
Good idea
because distance in contrast to crowded highways. and rare engine proems due to required maintenance
@strateguy632 you’re more than likely to crash in a car than a plane
Just hate turbulence
@LaurenM1997 I fly small planes. Think of turbulence the same way you think of small waves in the ocean and the way they affect a boat. Both are a little uncomfortable but neither will hurt you. The plane flies in an ocean of air.

They are safer than driving.
Airplanes are safer than cars & your odds of being in an accident during a flight is one in 1.2 million, and the chance of that being fatal is one in 11 million. Comparatively, your chances of dying in a car crash are over 200,000 times higher, averaging around one in 5,000.
@AngryCarl I’m rolling with yes on that one within reason & it may not be a jackpot winning however maybe a smaller ticket or a scratch off ticket.
Good answer
@Static_In_The_Attic True, I only count the jackpot because smaller prizes are lame.
In my opinion, that's a big NO!
Imagine a few loose bolts that didn't get tightened by an employee that is careless can bring an entire jet down and kill hundreds of people. This happened some years ago. So sad!
Best thing anyone can do is put their head between their legs and kiss their ass goodbye. Just in case.
All things getting more dangerous because the students of today cheat and are not excelling in the profession they went to school for so replacing the older people who are retiring who did do their job to the fullest, these new people are just solely there for the paycheck and don’t do their job properly. It’s only a small percent of them who actually did their homework in school and know what the eff their doing. Goes for almost all careers today.
Super safe. I travel every week for the past eight years due to work and never encountered any technical issues. Airplanes are the safest mode of transport.
@sheikalana good to know
Commercial airline jets are but the smaller ones are not as since they are flown by regular people that got a pilots license. I’ve been in both many times since my dad had a small aircraft license but didn’t go high enough for a pressurized cabin, it was just propeller driven. Most problems with airplane crashes were pilot error but airlines have been quite safe for years now
Personally I hate flying but that is the safest transportation. The only problem is if it crashes the chance of your being rescued is very low.
Just don't instigate a threesome with the pilots, missy! :-P
@drygermanguy Threesome, okay
Airplanes are the safest they've ever been. Look at the number of major crashes in the past 10 years compared to the decades before that, not very many anymore.
I’m just thinking about the doors that came off recently
Yes, safest. You're more likely to get into an accident going to the airport.
Yes probably right
Yeah they are fine, 1000’s of aircraft fly all over the world every day, yes there are delays, yes there will be the odd diversion, but air travel is still very safe.
Airplanes are safer than driving. As an ex airforce aircraft technician I am quite comfortable on any flight.
Nice to meet you
Most of the time, yes! A car crash is way more likely than a plane crash just to put that into perspective
Nothing is 100% safe. As far as methods of transportation go, flying in a commercial aircraft is safer than any other transport means. It's even safer than walking across the street.
Airplanes are still the safest way to travel.
@wise4myage thank you
You’re welcome Jenn.
Yes. A plane both engines can blow out mid flight and still fly with plenty of time to spare to find a safe emergency landing spot.
I never knew that
Me neither. My brother studied plane mechanics and told me and I was surprised it was so.
The plane has to be high enough though.
Of course, need lots of Altitude
That depends on how big the plane is and how heavy, as well as it's altitude. The lower a plane is the less time it has to glide. Without constant forward thrust a big airliner drops pretty rapidly vs. a light small plane like a Piper Cub that can glide for many miles. An airliner's wings are not built for gliding.
most of them are safe... most of the times, yes
I heard a little blimp on some news outlet. That an airline was going to use DEI for their hiring practices. Not relying so heavily on calcifications and experience! In that case I might consider walking!
Generally, yes. What I don’t like is the added radition exposure at high altitude. But, generally, pilots have been doing it for generations now and they turn out fine.
I really think they are, my family and i fly a lot for dads job so im almost always on an airplane at least once a month sometimes even more
I think it is safer and a ton faster than driving!
Just as safe as any mode of transportation is
Airplanes are a compromise between safety, economy, and convenience.
Planes are safe I just don’t like airports.
I don’t like airports either and the cancellations
I'm sure they are but I won't ever go on one. If I can't drive to my destination, I'm not going.
Apparently they are the most safest form of transport.
They need a ton of mandatory inspections and maintenance before take off.
So yeah more safe than other modes of transport
Only up until the point they plummet from the sky.
I am now terrified of Boeing aircraft.
@dermalpunch I feel the same about Boeing
Yes, extremely. Pilots and aircrew take thousands of flights and they're still fine. You're far more likely to die in a car accident.
You never know, but it should be👀
They are very safe.
Safest form of travel.
Yes of course.
Safer than driving
For the most part
I’ve never had any problems
Commercial aviation is very safe.
Yes, airplanes are safe
Operated properly they are safe.
As an aircraft mechanic yes they are
Probably safer than Highway traffic
Relative to what?
It’s not relevant
Mostly.. Id say yes
Ong those things finna shut down mid air 🤣
Safety than smart cars
* safer (auto correct got me again)
very safe
Relatively…
It should
Yes that's my favorite way to travel.
Yes they are
I hope so
yeah
yes more than cars
I hope so...
