Unlike many other countries, Americans are not known for travelling to other countries. In fact, only 42% of Americans have passports, much lower than many other countries.

The map above shows the places that Americans are travelling to this summer (2024), by state. Italy is the most common destination, being the most common international travel destination in 22 of the 50 states.

Is this map evidence that Americans, at least some of them, do travel overseas?

I mean, I guess. The pic specifically only shows international destinations. Doesn’t say how many are traveling internationally vs nationwide.
But showing “some” Americans travel internationally sure, of course. It shows that.

I think most Americans go to Canada or Mexico since they’re the closest and cheapest to get to. My friends in Europe always travel to all these diff countries because they’re all so close. People talk shit about us not traveling as much but it’s easier for them vs us in the states. I paid less than $100 for a round trip from Paris to Rome. When I was in Korea it was less than $200 for a round trip to Japan. A lot of round trip flights from the states to Europe or Asia are at least $1k. Plus isn’t the U. S like one of the top 5 largest countries or something? There’s a lot of different states to see, so a lot of people want to spend their time exploring the beauties of the U. S

Americans might travel to other countries if the USA didn't make it far more difficult than in other countries to obtain passports and visas.

Some definitely do. I am part of that some. Funny thing is the people that travel outside the US are almost exclusively republican, independent, or have zero political affiliation. Liberals very rarely travel outside the safety of the US because if they pulled their shit in any other country they'd get what they deserve be it a firm ass whooping or a short drop and a sudden stop because other countries are famously intolerant of stupidity.

Only 42% of Americans have passports compared to 86.5% of Brits. Most of those are then used for trips within the North American continent and the Caribbean

Of course some of them travel. Many have not and have no interest in travelling which is very sad.

I don't know anyone who can afford to travel.
Most have too much focus on all of their kids future expenses. This is a wealthy family map.

No!!! It doesn't break out how many quantity or percentage. It only gives state specific destinations. It's useless for proving your thesis but gives good anecdotal evidence.
