If you're an American who loves to travel, is it sort of obligatory to visit all 50 states?

I've always sort of felt this way, but now I feel that a lot of states really aren't that interesting. Maybe if I didn't have a passport or I had an infinite amount of money or someone else paid for it, I would do it. It's still not off the table, but the older you get the more you start to realize how precious money and time is, and you stop focusing so much on "collecting places" and start focusing more on seeing the places that are truly worth seeing. I've already been to all the Western and Gulf states, as well as Georgia, New York, Nebraska and the Dakotas, and there are only a few other states in the U. S. that really interest me. I'd rather use my money to see more places abroad.

Europeans can answer this question for Europe, or I guess it can apply in a more broad sense too.

I never intended to visit every country on earth, but I wanted to at least visit every country in Europe and the Americas, as well as every US state and territory and every province and territory in Canada.

But now there are places in these regions that no longer really interest me or appeal to me. Maybe if I saw all my bucketlist places first

I have 7 I haven't been to and then probably 3 where I was in the state but barely and didn't do anything really but don't feel like I need to go again because there isn't much to do. I maybe will do finish my last 7 some day but it would probably be just to say I did because I can't for the life of me figure out what you'd do in North Dakota.

Why does everyone shit on North Dakota?😂 Teddy Roosevelt National Park is worth visiting, especially if you like wild horses. And Medora and Fort Union are also worth visiting.

Yeah. Same with countries. So I think it would be enough to just visit one or two in each region.
States in the same region are usually similar to each other, except maybe in the West. The Western states are all very unique.

I know more about the Eastern side of America than Western side
but if they'r really similar I don't think is it necessary to visit them all except if you really want to

It's closer to Europe so I'm not surprised. And also, our capital is there as is New York City, which is very famous.
Basically the east is known for its cities and the west is known more for its nature.

Yeah. But I meant more like New England states are similar to each other, and many southern and prairie states. But New England states are so small, you can easily visit them all within a few hours if you have a car XD

But this applies to other countries too. I've found that the more you travel, the more places start to look similar. There are places I wanted to visit 10 years ago, that I now think are no longer worth it

Yes and the French immigrant went mainly to the East coast like in Maine (the name apparently come from Maine et Loire)
And I also watched Mafia show / movie who was located in New york and I always been the biggest fan of Batman and the city is inspired from New york so

I didn't know the West was know for their nature to me in France the West of America is now for Las Vegas, Hollywood, Beverly hills and San Francisco so we know mostly cities not so much nature.

I'm mostly interested by the New England states personally I would like to visit them one day, they seem more similar to Europe and also in my mind smaller , the whole "Wild West" has always been kind of creepy to me it's so big but there's nothing expect nature on miles and miles you can't even find a restaurant or sometime water / oil it's creepy to be in the middle of nowhere.

It's true but is not surprising for Europe the whole countries shape changed so much over the years just look at a map before the WW1 it look nowhere like today and the countries used to be so big but now they're all very small compared to before so is it normal it's similar. It's cause some years ago they used to be in the same countries, lots of countries also have very similar architecture / food / culture etc...

That I did NOT know! I visited the East for the first time a couple weeks ago. I went with my mom to Niagara Falls. She always wanted to see it. It's our largest and most famous waterfall.

Really? That's so weird to me, because you guys don't have places like Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Arches, Monument Valley, even Mesa Verde. So a lot of Europeans are interested in seeing those places.
Las Vegas is an overrated tourist trap honestly. I liked it when I was a kid though. But the surrounding areas are very ineteresting.

That's weird, I would think you'd want to visit places that are more different. My parents used to live there, my mom says it's not really worth it. But I've always wanted to go too. I almost convinced my dad to go this summer, but he didn't want to, so I went instead to Niagara Falls with my mom.
I do like colonial history though. Bermuda would be similar and cooler, but so expensive.

I personally like that about the U. S. Europe is a little too crowded for my taste. Even in remote areas they have people living.

Yeah, my dad has some old atlases, and it really is crazy how much the borders have changed.

It is cool to check out states as you gradually travel, move around, see the sights, etc. however it isn’t a must.
