+1 ySorry for the long answer, but I guess I felt a bit inspired and just started typing away. lol...
I have only been to nine states so far. They are: Michigan, Ohio (most of my extended family lives in Ohio), Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, California and Colorado. I'd have to say my favourite state so far has been Colorado. I visited there for about 10 days in 2015 and did a ton of hiking and camping, and I got to see every part of the state, except the northwest corner. But there wasn't anything there, scenery-wise, that I hadn't seen in other parts of the state, so I didn't really feel like I missed anything be not going there.
But the scenery was stunning in many places and I loved how diverse the scenery and different ecological zones are there. Colorado is sort of a unique crossroads of different landscapes where you have mountains, mountain rainforests and rocky desert-like areas, as well as plains and grasslands, and they all sort of intersect in one geographic area, so there is a ton of different flora and fauna that overlaps there, which makes for a very diverse state.
Surprisingly though, as amazing as the mountains were, I arguably enjoyed the grassland plains in the eastern half of the state even more. I was lucky enough to visit Pawnee National Grassland in the northeast and the Comanche National Grassland in the southeast part of the state. They had an understated beauty to them with the rock outcroppings and eroded valleys they had, and both were incredibly full of life. WAY more than the mountainous areas. The incredible array of plant, animal and insect life to discover there is quite astounding. Again, the unique overlapping of different ecological zones makes for a lot of different species and a lot of life. I'd go back to Colorado in a heartbeat.
As for California, I was there for 10 days in 2014, and other than some of the natural areas I visited it was pretty disappointing overall. I was in the L. A. to Fresno area and I just found it overpopulated, ecologically damaged, wasteful and many areas were dirty and/or run down, and some places I felt very unsafe. L. A. was a dead, concrete wasteland with hardly any flora (and nearly no native flora) and little lighting on the streets at night. I had no interest in the tourist areas and the beaches were just "meh". Good enough for sunbathers, I guess, but they were mostly on the verge of becoming ecological dead zones. There just wasn't anything compelling about L. A. for me. I'd rate it as one of the most overrated cities in North America. I also stopped in Bakersfield on my way from Fresno to L. A. and yikes. Never again. I don't have good memories of that place.
I'm sure there are nicer areas, and I'm sure some of the people are really nice, but as an overall experience of southern California, I was pretty underwhelmed. With that said, the hiking and camping I did in Kings Canyon National Park was good and I got to see the sequoia trees in Sequoia National Park, so that was pretty cool. Also, on my first full day in California, me and a few other friends hiked to the top of a mountain just outside of the greater L. A. area, and that was the first time I had ever seen mountains firsthand. Let alone hike to the top of one of them, so that was pretty special. From the mountain peak that we overnighted on we could see the ocean to the west and the Mojave Desert to the east, so that was pretty cool.
But I don't think I'd ever go back to southern California, other than some of the natural areas. I'm sure northern California has some nice places to visit though. Maybe one day.
But every state has beautiful areas to visit if you look for it. I'd like to visit them all.00 Reply

I’ve visited most of them... All things consider Florida is the best state to live a day to day life in my opinion. After that parts of North Carolina are relatively nice, though I do not like the state income tax, much of their property rights law dealing with homesteads/agriculture land, or business environment. Their cost of living use to be low enough to balance it out, but their real estate market has quickly caught up to the more popular metro locations where there are highly skilled/high pay jobs. On the east coast it’s pretty much a stinky polluted cesspool of high congestion and crime from Richman Virginia North through Connecticut. After you get through Connecticut, that is if you don’t fall asleep in grid lock, there are some relatively nice places on the eyes in New England, but the people suck for the most part. The dry dusty western part of the country is a pretty miserable place to live in my opinion. It’s nice to see the sights once or twice, but I wouldn’t want to live there. I don’t like the hot dry summers and general brown orange of it all... Deserts and high plains are not for me... I grew up in Florida so I’m use to bright aquamarine tropical waters minutes from where I live and general foliage being green all year long with brightly colored tropical flowers... Portland, Oregon use to be a relatively clean city that was well designed and the Columbia River Gorge is q pretty scenic get away just outside the city. West coast taxes are pretty shitty though. Washington State doesn’t have the state income tax on employees by they hit corporations hard and have very high sales tax. In general the residents of the left coast have turned the entire coast into hell on earth. They have some pretty good nature though. If you ever want to go to a place and see how humans can really fuck up paradise, go to the west coast of America. They give so much greatness, and they just shit all over it and lit it on fire... It's a great representation of the evil of mankind. Alaska is a nice place in the summer, if you have enough stashed away to leave the world with like minded people and can deal with an extreme lack of convenience I suppose, but the winters are brutal... The Midwest that I have seen is lots of corn... There are still pockets of the country left to explore, but I don’t know that I’d want to live in any other state, especially after witnessing how people behaved when government tyranny rose in their states over there past couple of years...

Too many to list out, but the best or most surprising ones were Alaska, Maine, and Utah.
The worst ones are Arizona, Illinois, and Virginia, though I'd say California is the one that has tanked the hardest... It used to be a vacation favorite when I was a kid, but now there's no reason whatsoever for me to ever go back. Hawaii is pretty much in the same boat except I've always considered it overrated.
I haven't been to many northeastern states or most of the ones that border Canada other than Washington... I'd probably like some of the rural ones but the blob of disgusting cities in the northeast is pretty much the exact opposite of places I like in America, so really no urge to visit them any time soon.
Overall, there are not many that I've been to that I am actively looking to go back to, and that extends to all but 2 of the 30 countries I've been to as well.00 Reply- 341 opinions shared on Travel topic.
+1 yI’ve passed through more than I’ve “visited.” We always drove on family summer vacations when I was a kid, so for example, when we went to Disney World I passed through all of the states 95 South passes through from Massachusetts to Florida, but we only stopped in some of them, and with only a couple exceptions, we just stayed in a motel overnight and got back on the road the next day. So I’ll just list places I actually went to places besides a motel, gas station, or restaurant, or airport layovers.
Mass is home. I’ve been to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania (Gettysburg), Chesapeake Bay in either Delaware or Maryland (I forget, I was like 10, lmao, I think it was Maryland), Washington DC, South Carolina (Myrtle Beach), Florida, Kentucky (“horse country”, no idea where that was), Ohio (Football Hall Of Fame in Canton), Michigan (Ann Arbor), Texas (Austin), and California (LA/Long Beach).02 Reply- +1 y
Oh, and I guess Los Angeles impressed me the most, I really enjoyed it there. Crazy traffic though. But top notch Mexican food👍👍 And the Lakes Region of New Hampshire is my Happy Place and most frequent travel destination. Great smallmouth fishing👌

+1 yI have been to the states once for two weeks back in 2018 and in California/Pasadena and a weekend un vegas. I want to see more but it's too expensive and too far. I like Cali a little bit, it is over populated, 2 weeks were kot enough to see California but it's nice. There us nothing like vegas, that city is amazing and gas everything for everyone. I want to see more and my visa goes out 2028. Any tips?

Also DC and Puerto Rico. It’s a pretty bad country and worse than most of Canada and the UK, I can’t say I have a favorite maybe California, and New York, because that’s where I have the most friends.

+1 yTbh I’ve been to quite a few but can’t remember the names as such.
we drove from Key West to Nellis AFB, we went via New Orleans, The Alamo and then I think up on whatever road follows the Rio Grande.
Also go to Atlanta and California
Drove from Nellis to mt St Helen’s area for a exped.
Also we would often just fly in to an airbase and operate from there for a few weeks etc.00 Reply- 518 opinions shared on Travel topic.
m +1 yI really would like to visit the United States in general and surely would have by now, had 9/11 not happened. With the IDIOT ACT established, stealing my personal information, including my fingerprints and these barely literate monkeys from TSA searching my phone and groping me, this is not going to happen.
I‘ll take my hard-earned money where I will not be treated like a common thief. :-/

I enjoyed the beauty of Western Montana and experiencing "Big Sky" country. The mountains in Colorado and Vermont are beautiful, and the sheer desert beauty of parts of New Mexico and Arizona are stunning. Wine country in California is really beautiful too.

In the summer months Washington state really impresses me with having about 3000 trails, beautiful waterfalls, the ocean, beaches and mountains all within a couple hour drive from the big cities. Wyoming and Montana are great places for fishing, seeing wildlife and nature, but the Winters are harsh and difficult to travel. California is great for theme parks, outdoor activities and warm year round weather, however air quality gets really bad, cost of living is expensive, and homelessness is very bad. Northern California is more laid back and more affordable cost of living, but it rains a lot. Oregon has some great waterfalls and beaches too, but many of the jobs don’t seem to pay as well.
