Can anyone recommend any nice areas to live that are affordable and close to an ocean?

I have decided to sell my home and move out of this area , I been struggling to find a job ever since I got laid off , and realized nothing is really holding me here , I currently live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania but I am originally from South New Jersey , I thought about moving back to Jersey only if I can land a decent job there because cost of living there is outrageous as well, I am just seeking some ideas and weighing my options , any suggestions is greatly appreciated Thanks

Affordable near water with jobs? Does it have to be in the USA and the social environment may also be relevant. For example, if you teach English in Japan, it's cheap and we really liked it there. But maybe hard to integrate socially... take work. Thailand is cheap too. Lots of nice water. Sell it all, have a bail out place somewhere at friends or family ideally... then do some exploring. Find a nice Asian girlfriend, much more sane than some others in USA. USA has so many problems.

Is a lake suitable? You've got the great lakes there and upper michigan is really nice and more affordable in areas.

Where I'm at east coast is water and there is some medium priced homes around, but it's hard getting them currently. Maybe better off up towards Maine. But is there work?

I hear florida prices are dropping but I'd be very cautious buying there... insurance costs and such. pick wisely.

For me, I don't make water a priority, so am more flexible to environment and price.

Huge numbers of people would like to live on an ocean coast - far more people than the coasts can support - so supply and demand has made the prices high. If there are areas along the coast that are cheaper, it's because something about them makes them less desirable. Bad weather, lousy coastline, old, crumbling buildings, high crime areas, pollution - SOMETHING is keeping the prices down. So, don't just move somewhere without investigating the area first. Talk with a bunch of people in the area you're thinking about moving to before you move.

For example, lots of people moved to Florida during COVID - and there were good reasons for doing so - but many didn't exactly understand what Florida is and they made poor choices of WHERE in Florida to go - and many lost a bunch of money to relocate AGAIN because where they moved wasn't what they expected. A place can be great for a lot of reasons and still not be the right place for YOU - and a place can be lousy for many reasons and still be a good choice for YOU - depending on what YOU want.

Anyplace near the coast is very expensive. New Hampshire is probably the best bet in the northeast. The hose price has risen like most places but the taxes are low and there is no state income tax or sales tax.

Eureka and Arcata in California, though they have a homeless and tweaker problem. Unfortunately you cannot get cheap AND nice and be on the coast. You will have to compromise something. Anyways, that's in California, but I thought I'd suggest it anyways. I'm not familiar with the East coast

Close to the ocean is rarely affordable, maybe Virginia, South Carolina, or Georgia. Maybe Pensacola Florida, Mobile Alabama, Biloxi Mississippi, Texas. The Gulf Coast is humid as fuck during the summer, though.
