Why is Los Angeles in better shape than New York City?

Both are the largest US cities. While Los Angeles is far from perfect, and worse off than Dubai, Paris, London, and Tokyo, the city is in far better condition than New York. 10-15 years ago that was not the case at all, New York used to feel safe, it wasn’t as dirty, and it was family friendly. Today it is much different.

New York has always been dangerous. And L. A still is. All of the U. S is not really that safe compared to other parts of the world.

The main reason is the way USA has no real social safety net. Americans have this misinformed idea that any form of social welfare is “communism” and therefore they shun ideas like government subsidised healthcare and unemployment, carers and business grant allowances. They think lowering taxes will fix their problems but it doesn’t because low taxes don’t give the government enough money to look after its people. USA is like free for all chaos compared to the rest of the developed world.

This makes it especially hard for young people who don’t have the support of their family. Take me for example, when I was first out of school, I actually went for more than 6 months without working at all. Maybe almost 2 years while I was studying and just generally having a good time. I could do it because my country gave me an unemployment allowance for that whole time and even paid for some of my study. If I had been born in USA and tried that, I would’ve ended up a crack addict who sucked dick for crack and robbed people and shit. Add in easy access to guns especially in the crack head underbelly, people would’ve died. But that didn’t happen because I lived in a country which isn’t bat shit insane.
