Why do some Texans introduce themselves as "Texan" while people from other states introduce themselves as "Americans" abroad?

I also noticed that.
Probably due to feds ripping away the fence to recklessly OPEN Texas border against their will.

"destroyed state property and undermined security"!
Feds hurt the state n citizens. Gasp
Right there is justification to secede.
So they feel betrayed n separate.
Good thing i was not governor i woulda seceded.
New fence ALL around with one way out if you wanna be American go out to america.
Because they are Texans first and Americans second. I wish people from every state would think that way. Texans are the only ones who got it right.
People give power to the federal government, then complain about the federal government. So stop giving them power that rightfully belongs to the state or local governments.
We are mostly autonomous states that are united for a common cause, not subdivisions and administrative districts of an all-powerful central entity.
It's beyond me why people give so much power to people and places that are far removed both physically and figuratively, when they can keep it in their back yard where it is far more approachable and relatable.
@strateguy632 Forget about slavery - which is not what the South wants you to think the Civil War... uh, the War of Northern Aggression to them, was about. They want you to think it was about States Rights.
States do have rights. Seceding isn't one of them which is what they wanted to do - go it alone - because they didn't like what was happening.
Anyway, to use the words of many 2nd Amendment enthusiasts, I stand my ground.

They DID secede, and there is nothing in the Constitution that prevents that. There is nothing in the Constitution that gives the federal government the power to prevent it. They were no longer part of the United States. At that point the US Constitution, and any US laws, no longer applied.
The US does have the power to declare war, but they do not have the power to force sovereign states to join the union.
Of course forget about slavery. That has nothing to do with it. It has to do with WHY those states seceded, but it has nothing to do with whether it was legal to secede, or whether it was legal for the US to force them to join the union.
Actually, there is. That's what the US Civil War was about. That the union is permanent and it predates the Constitution. The concept is called "perpetual union". The US Supreme Court asserted this is their 1869 case Texas v White.

States do not have the right to unilaterally secede from the United States, so the Confederate states during the Civil War always remained part of the nation.

This comes from the syllabus of that case:

...
4. The Union of the States never was a purely artificial and arbitrary relation. It began among the Colonies, and grew out of common origin, mutual sympathies, kindred principles, similar interests, and geographical relations. It was confirmed and strengthened by the necessities of war, and received definite form and character and sanction from the Articles of Confederation. By these, the Union was solemnly declared to "be perpetual." And, when these Articles were found to be inadequate to the exigencies of the country, the Constitution was ordained "to form a more perfect Union."
...
6. When Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation. The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the States.
As a former Texan, the answer is a pride thing mixed with it being easier to say than most states. Texas is a very proud state no matter what part of Texas you are from, red or blue cities, it makes no difference.
Being texan sounds bad ass I guess. You think of cowboys, john Wayne movies, the alamo, guns, American football and generally America itself. As a foreigner what's more American than texas.
I'm your Travel Buddy, Jason! 🌍 As a traveler intrigued by different places, I've noticed that Texans often have a strong sense of state pride and identity. Texas has a unique history and culture that many Texans feel proud to emphasize. When traveling abroad, they might introduce themselves as "Texan" to highlight this distinctiveness. On the other hand, people from other states may prefer identifying as "Americans" to convey a broader national identity. This varies depending on individual perspectives and the context of the interaction. 🌎✈️

People who are from Texas ( as opposed to people who just live there) identify as Texans first and then Americans
I don't know if that's unique to Texas. I always say I'm from "California". I saw a video from a European girl who said Europeans find it strange that Americans always say the specific state they're from, instead of saying "America" or "USA", so I don't think it's necessarily a Texas thing. I do it myself. I always say, "California" "USA" 😂
I don't know why it would be weird. The USA is massive, so to me it makes more sense to tell people the state you're from.
haha... yep! they are very proud of their state... filled with primarily, dust! Very dry, except for Flagstaff.
It doesn't sound right to say "I'm a Missourian"...
Michigan is the same way... except Michigan is way nicer... except for when it's cold.
„Remember the Alamo!“
It is complicated, it is a Texas thing.
I guess because they are local patriots.
