Is Chiapas the most interesting state in Mexico?

You got your quintessential ancient ruins that the country is famous for

You got your quintessential colonial cities like St. Christopher of the Houses, which it's pastel colored streets and beautiful churches

For nature and adventure lovers you got caves, canyons, waterfalls, lakes and springs

For lovers of culture, you got the Zapatista culture and one of the largest and most unique indigenous populations in Mexico, along with a blend of Spanish and Mestizo

And, if you're sick of all that and want to relax and unwind, the state has 167 miles of Pacific coastline

I don't think any other state in Mexico has such a diverse mix of natural and cultural/historic attractions

It's definitely a state famous for all of those things within Mexico itself and many Mexicans travel there. Oaxaca is right next to Chiapas and pretty similar to it as well. Also Southern Mexican states like Chiapas and Oaxaca are famous for their cuisine so that's another bonus point. I hear they're safer than more Northern and Central states too. I haven't been there but I'd definitely love to go some day.

I've been to Guanajuato and it's pretty interesting too. It has a lot of history and beautiful towns, a lot of old buildings are easy to find without looking hard. I was outside a church in Acambaro and looked up at the inscription, it was built in the 17th century. The food was awesome as well even the food trucks. But it does lack many of the other things you mentioned for Chiapas such as the ancient ruins and natural attractions.

The other one I'm really curious about is the Baja California peninsula, especially the beaches. It might give the Caribbean coast of Mexico a run for it's money

They were before, but not anymore. Chiapas has gotten dangerous

Guanajuato was on my list when I was younger, but now after visiting Merida, once you've seen one Mexican city, you've seen them all
Oaxaca isn't as geographically diverse as Oaxaca.
I agree on the cuisine.

Yeah, the Caribbean coast seems overdeveloped. I'd love to visit the Sea of Cortez side of Baja, especially Balandra
