It's funny in my opinion how people get so upset about it. My solution is that everyone closes the lid after each use. It keeps the peace and also the cats and dogs out of it. Great song!

My father was a POW during WW2. He worked on a farm in Germany. They had a big outhouse for all the prisoners including some Russians. It was a long wooden structure with many large holes in it. There was no privacy. You just sat on one of the holes and took a dump. He told me the Russians used to squat over the hole. They thought that the Americans were not clean.
