Your thoughts of those who post photos of their overseas trips on social media?

Some may say they do it beacuse they want to share their happiness with others, others say it is just to show it off and brag. Which one is more accurate?

Each end of the year holidays is the same trend for many people, posting photos of their international trips on social media (IG, FB, Tik Tok, Twitter). The most expensive time of the year to travel for me. I have several acquaintances who are now spending the holidays in other countries with their families and posting where they are, etc etc photos here and there, videos here and there.

So then I ask my self sometimes do these people honestly do it to share their happy times with friends and family or they really do it to brag and show off that they could afford an international trip often and look at me, while others can't afford it. I mean there are people who take trips each year in December, is not just one time, they travel each year.

I don’t particularly care that much to be honest. When I have the privilege of traveling overseas, it’s usually on someone else’s dime because my income is legally recognized as impoverished, and it’s also a rare opportunity that I’m genuinely excited to be a part of. My friends will ask to send pictures, and that’s just what I do not just for the sake of sharing the experience but also just because I want to remember it and have images to help me do so. I don’t think posting them is an issue or intended insult on the part of the poster, much like how the images of such excursions being received negatively are not the intentions of the original posting. We can’t know their intentions in sharing the experience because we’re not in their head, we don’t know what they’re thinking and does it honestly matter?


Whoever takes it as a positive thing does so because that’s how they see it, and whoever takes it as a negative thing does so because that’s how they see it. A lot of social media can feel like a competition, constantly comparing ourselves to others and it’s not always in a positive way, not that the social media itself cares they just want you to interact with it and generate more money for them. It’s all relative and it’s all about perspective.

It's the bragging that makes people happier than the actual trips themselves lol

It's the "look at me" society we live in now lol

If something truly made you happy you would just live in the moment and enjoy it. You could tell not a single sole and be happy. But no. It's the telling about it that makes people happy. And NOBODY ever enjoys or gets happy looking at others pictures or experiences lol.. so it's not about sharing at all 😝

Not saying it's a wrong or bad thing to do. I love bragging. It is very pleasurable. Which at least I can openly say lol.

It's not nice if other people's bragging makes you feel bad though. But it's not down to them to nor brag. All us can choose to filter out things that effect us negatively. So I recommend not paying much attention to it.

Yeah, it used to be a competition for things like who had the nicest clothes, who had the biggest house, who had the fanciest car, who had the highest paying job, who had the hottest girlfriend, now it's a competition for who's been to the most places/countries.

I've never really been one to follow social media trends. Even if I go to one of those places, is because it genuinely interests me, not because it's trending. Although safety and cost are very important to me, so if that gets mentioned, especially if it's a place I've been wanting to visit for a while, I do jump on it.

I personally have a strong interest in travel and geography, so I love viewing that sort of content. I think for me it's not so much the places (although it can be as well), but it's more that I'm jealous of their lifestyle.

Myself, I simply liked showing other people these cool places, but I'll admit that I was quite arrogant about it, and it only made people hate me. I still do my YouTube, but I stopped using Facebook and on Instagram, I mainly only post pictures from domestic trips and it's mainly road trips, because anything else, and people start to get jealous and suspicious and start asking me how I have the money. So as much as I'd love to share certain places, I hold back

It can be one of the dangers of social media - people only post their "best" - so when we're broke sitting at home bored scrolling through Facebook all we see are our friends and family going to sporting events concerts fancy dinners dances trips vacations Etc - it can really make you feel like your "less than" or like we're in some kind of competition - I just try and remember that and it doesn't bother me

For business and pleasure I have made many overseas trips. I have never posted anything about them on social media.

Some people just want to show others their life, whether it's traveling overseas or walking the dog. I really never understood why people feel the need to do that.

I don't really pay attention or I don't even really care people do things for different reasons for silly reasons for funny reasons for social reasons impress reasons and I don't really pay attention

There are also those who want to make people more enlightened. Introduce them to beautiful places they may not have known and also inspire them to travel themselves

Then, there are also those who are getting paid to do it

I believe there are definitely some people that only do it to show off. They are the same people that post endless photos of the most boring things in an apparent attempt to get attention.
