I have been in an airliner cockpit multiple times, more than I ever wanted to be.

My grandfather was a pilot for a major airline and as such, I had numerous opportunities to fly with him as passenger. You should know that immediate family members have benefits such as free or reduced airline tickets, most of them on standby basis. That means, that if there is space on the flight, you can travel along.

Often, I had to fly in the cockpit on the jumpseat on those return trips. While not comfortable, since the seats don't recline, I was able to see the entire procedures from preflight checklists to engine shutdown checklists.

Unfortunately, I also had my share of times where I was stuck at an airport and had to find my way back home on an alternate routing. Not funny!

Few professional pilots call it that. "Flightdeck" is the most common term. Cockpit might be more for fighter aircraft.

Lots of times. Heavy bombers, cargo aircraft, helicopters, light aircraft, private jets. Just a tourist / passenger though. Not as a pilot. I just use em for transportation then usually abandon em.

The flight deck of an aircraft? Yes. I used to give tours on an airport ramp and I took school groups inside 747's and new hire pilots to the type they were going to fly.
