What Is Your Transport System?

My form of transport is a 16 inch wheel folding cycle and trains, that allows me to be transported anywhere in the country cheaply, in comfort, and with no stress.

My cycle folds up easily, and is allowed on all trains without booking.

My cycle is also allowed on all forms of public transport, also in cabs / taxis.

Being so flexible, I don't need to wear cycling gear, and I arrive at my destination similarly dressed to a car driver, without all the cost and hassle of a car.

Sometimes I do hire a car, and my cycle fits easily into the boot.

Why would anyone want to travel any other way!

My system is good for commuting, holidays, days outings, just about everything a car is used for, and just as quick.

It's obvious with the poll, the car is the system the majority of people use for their transport.
But I think it's good to know there might be an alternative system, or perhaps use the car to travel close to your destination, where there might be easier parking, and keep a folding cycle in the car for the rest of the journey.

My "transport system" is a cargo van. 97% of the time I leave the house is for work, and to do my work, I need tools, ladders, and supplies, including many rolls of cable. For most jobs, I also need "equipment" - TVs, speakers, mounts, network equipment, WiFi access points, and things like that. Most of my customers are between 30-40 miles away from my house, but a few are more like 70.

This pretty much dictates what I drive. I have to have my equipment and supplies at the job site, and many days I visit 4 or 5 locations in a day.

While it is nice to have a public transport system for any commutes to and from the office where I am carrying no more than a backpack laptop and a briefcase, for any serious (short of flying) recreational travel, I need a vehicle with room for friends and all the gear necessary, be it the ski slopes in the winter or the offshore diving in the summer.

I hire a car for holidays, or when I need a car, much less hassle.
You are certainly very active and adventurous.
I've been skiing on snow, but very slowly, and I've been diving inshore, at the swimming pool, 🙂 just to the bottom of a deep swimming pool, but with both, a long time ago.

I walk if it's within 5 miles or less other wise my mom drives me

I've walked for long distances in valleys by the side of rivers on nice days, with wonderful scenery, and along promenades on hot days, but walking is not really my scene.
5 miles on a folding cycle would take about 20 minutes, and no waiting for public transport, and coming back if the weather was bad, and public transport was available at that time, I would use it, and my cycle would be hand luggage.

Yeah but I live in the country were there's no public transportation so that's not an option for me.

I have a pair of comfortable shoes that take me just about anywhere I want to go. Sure, sometimes they are on the floor of a moving vehicle (car, bus, train or plane) but a lot of the time they are just walking on the ground.

Walking is very good for your fitness too, but I've seen the light, and folding cycles are the way forward, especially for someone your age.

Legs mostly. I have a company car, but I only drive when necessary. If I am going into the city, I take the train because it is ten times faster than being stuck in traffic.

In the past for me it was the car because it was so convenient, but I'm now living in the perfect place for public transport, and cycling is given a priority by the authorities, parking cars is getting ever more difficult, and there are health benefits to cycling.

If I can get there by driving that is the way I will go. The only exception is if it is a long distence & I have to get there quickly. Then I will fly.

I primarily drive vehicles, though when I visit the right city I will take the train/metro usually.
Given where I live and work there is no other alternative means.

I sold my car, because I had problems with parking, maintenance, cost.
Cars take up so much time looking after them.
I did all the maintenance etc. perhaps I should have let someone else sort out the problems, I do now, I hire one when required and much cheaper.

It's expensive but it can be manageable. My bike also fits in my car too. I just take off the front wheel and it goes in

Folding cycles are not heavy, and mine goes with me everywhere I go.

That's a good idea for commuting. Our campus is huge, but there are far too many people walking around to use something like that. I would become a hazard to others' health lol.

I've done that, all the waiting for buses, and then they don't turn up.
I changed this system to my folding cycle, and I can still use public transport in bad weather.
Saves time walking too, if I have far to go after the bus journey.
