I am flying to Dallas on Friday for a layover on my way to Costa Rica and don't know how bad it really is going to be. I just got an email from American Airlines saying...

Winter Storm Fern is expected to significantly impact our operation, with multiple regions across our network and several major connecting airports being affected. Delays and flight cancellations are highly likely.

To help ensure a smoother experience, American has issued a travel alert that could allow you to make a fee-free change to your plans, especially if your current itinerary connects through one of the airports expected to be most affected.

I've been watching Mayday Airplane Disasters ✈️ a lot lately and the bad weather played a big part in most of the crashes.
My gut feeling tells me that you should change your plans and go when the weather is good not horrible. I would hate to have you in a terrible situation that you can't do anything about.

Is the trip necessary? Could it just be postponed? Why subject yourself to the risk. I know that current trend are to do things that you want to do when you want to do them, but wouldn't you have a much more enjoyable trip it you sat this one out. Yes, Iv'e been to Pensacola when I as a kid. I loved it :) The water was so clear and blue and there was a water park at the beach. :)

See if your layover can be in an area unaffected by the predicted storm. The airline should be able to help you route to another "hub" that also has flights to Costa Rica. Maybe a city like Phoenix?

Best of luck. I just checked and Phoenix does not have a direct to Costa Rica. However I see that Miami and Los Angeles both have directs to Costa Rica through American Airlines. But don't go by what I found out. Of course check with the travel people.
