I've caught 15 so far. :P
6 more today while doing the chickens, sadly none at my lake. :(
But it's like... random pokemons? Can you get a magikarp in your garden? Or a pidget in a cave?
You catch them in the environment that matches the type they are. Since I live out in the woods the only ones I've caught are bug/poison, normal, bug/grass, normal/flying. I tried to go to my lake but didn't find anything but I didn't walk around it much. I'll try again some other time.

Changing the world coordinates somehow... and trick the system : / , probably there are tuts already on google lol.
They would have to change google maps, which mine bugged earlier and had this pokemone pop up. Though then it corrected itself and I was too far away from it. :(
