This is just something interesting I found googling. I love looking at both sides, and someone had mentioned this before so....the pic says it all! Fairly well. Especially the second myth:

I think the history taught is highly flawed, but it dosnt change the fact that Slavery is immoral and was practiced by every ancient civilization and is still practiced today.

It is not practiced in the USA anymore, and is illegal, but BLM argues that blacks are discriminated against today, Institutionally. Which is untrue. BLM should focus on, trying to stop drugs pouring into lower-income black communities. Drugs funds the gangs, gangs continue violence and make it difficult for them to elevate themselves.

Slaves have been around longer than anything else in human history, do I believe it to be right? No. Was it nearly as bad as it was taught to us in elementary school? Up until the last generation of slaves in the US, no.

This is false. Indentured servitude and slavery are two different things. Indentured servitude was usually reserved for European immigrants ( Irish, Scottish, English, and Germans) as a debt for the passage from Europe to the colonies. Some Africans pre-1640 were also indentured servants but by the time the 1650s came along Indenture Servitude for Africans slowly started to morph into Chattel Slavery which was indeed a life sentence and passed onto generations. The Slave Codes that many states created, especially the southern states, showed this.

There's a reason why some of the Founding Fathers along with Lincoln detested slavery but held their tongue out of fear of the South leaving the Union.

@Starrk actually the only reason the north worked to abolish slavery was to take laborers working for nothing from the south and give them equally unlivable wages in the north.

No. The North more so the Federal Government opposed slavery for many reasons mostly of which ranged from economics and politics. There was indeed a minority group of abolitionist who detested slavery and pleaded for it's destruction, but these people were very small. The average Northerner didn't really care about slavery but for those that did hate slavery their reasons ranged from...

1. Slavery made finding a job for European immigrants and poor White Americans extremely difficult since they had to compete with free labor from slaves.

2. Slavery was seen as an immoral practice especially in the eyes of the North who were greatly influenced by Quakers and Mennonites.

3. The North and the Government envisioned the newly acquired western states as potential farmland for white families. Slavery and it's potential expansion out west threatened this idea and as a result many vocal Northerners grew to dislike slavery.

4. Expansion of slavery = The South gets more clout in Congress. The South getting more representation in DC meant they would have the power to hinder the North's progressions. The North wanted to build more roads, canals and tunnels, the South did not. The North wanted high tariffs, the South did not. The North wanted industrialization, the South wanted an Agrarian society. The North and South differed on two many issues and the North knew that the expansion of Slavery would mean the South would gets it's political way 9/10 which the North did not want.

Many Northerners essentially hated slavery not because it was immoral but because it was associated with the Southern lifestyle which they hated with a burning passion.

Also, The North did not free slaves so they can come up North and get jobs. The North was just as racist as the South. They damn sure did not want millions of Blacks coming into their states and instantly competing with them for jobs including the low wage jobs.

I think that is mostly strawman arguments as in made up and flawed arguments that is easy to refute however that people dont believe in.

I also believe that while the slave trade was bad, the effect on Africa might be worse since it is partially responsible for why Africa is a sorry mess instead of a stable region with plentiful resources and future prospects.

Fact: Egyptian slaves built the pyramids
Fact: A good portion of slaves (of all colors) were sold off by their own creed.
Yes slavery is a horrible thing, but I believe many people are misguided in the actual history..

Fact: Egyptian slaves did not build the Pyramids which is evident by their efficiency, labor conditions and treatment after death. The people who built the great pyramids were well paid workers.

Oh please. Aside from the Bible there is literally no source that actually claims that the pyramids were built by slaves. Aside from that the majority consensus is that the workers who built the pyramids were not only well paid but also well taken care of.

Your argument that people would not want to work on building the pyramids because its hard work is laughable. Building monuments is what they did, it was a core part of their culture not to mention hard work is considered the norm in that day and age.

I think what happened is that the vast majority of slaves in US were originally Black African in origin focuses the attention on this aspect - Yes as your fact sheet displays there those seem to be errors in the legend but as one of the others said slavery is immoral in whatever form it takes. I think BLM should focus on the equality issues rather than throwing words like slavery around.
