Why do people make such a big deal about Disney princesses being a certain body type? It's a fucking cartoon. People need to get over it. And no, obesity is a big problem in the US, we don't need more far role models to tell kids that itw ok to be fat.
I don't see why not. I think it's important to have art reflect life. Diversity matters, especially in entertainment. We've got Disney princesses of different ethnicities and hair colors, why not sizes? Seems logical to me.
I think It would be a good idea to get some different shapes and sizes in there, of course. However the princess should not be overweight. Unhealthy is not a thing to be idolized. A little heavier and curvier? Sounds fine.
Sure... if she's the bad guy.
Disney princesses are caricatures of what their customers consider beautiful.
That hasn't included being rotund in a long time.
Closest you'll find is Fiona from Shrek. And she was skinny for being an ogre.
I get they are promoting a healthy body image for girls but telling them it's okay be unhealthy and fat isn't okay either. You shouldn't have to be a size 0, I'm not. But be healthy and take care of your body is a good message.
I dont care.
But if they can actually get kids to like a "plus sized" princess then go for it. The only real thing stopping them from doing it is the possibility of the project failing and being a financial disaster
Maybe a t h i c c princess? Dunno about plus sized *as that usually means fat*. Maybe a healthy-normal looking one?
I don't think we should tell our kids it's okay to be fat, sorry. Maybe they should have a princess that is into fitness and is toned/muscular instead, not "plus sized".
Look at the women's comments vs their votes.
There is clearly a silent crowd inin this question
And promote the leading cause of death in America which is obesity related heart disease? Sounds like stupidity of biblical proportions, lol. Not sure what this is supposed to accomplish except teach girls it's okay to be morbidly obese. Maybe we should make a film about the most awkward hunchback of notre dame looking mother f$@er getting all the hoes in the end, lol. "It's okay to not shower and look like you aren't taking care of yourself boys! You'll still find someone special!"
I agree Fat Albert was a hero
but not in the same vein as The Flash
so if Disney were to be involved, she would not be a princess but she could be a hero in different venue, speaking to inner qualities as a goal.
I don't think we have to portray a size 0 all the time, but with McDonald's and all that everyone knows that being over weight is a problem in America and we should promote a healthy fit idol
No because in all honesty overweight woman do not look as good as woman who are in shape , healthy and fit looking. That pic you posted proves it. They look too hefty to be a princess.
Doctors are always advertising for people to lose weight.
We have to broaden what we see on TV and what we expose kids to so they don't grow up think that it is okay to body shame. Having plus size princesses and princesses of a smaller frame can let kids know that it's okay you have different body types and also it's okay to love yourself for who you are. Perhaps you didn't grow up hating your body for it not being a certain way but you can't speak for all people.
No. I want Disney Princesses to stay the same. I'm a skinny girl, but I certainly don't have the waistline of all those disney princesses. I want them to stay their skinny self's. It's so dumb.
Since young girls have been killing themselves by starvation to measure up to the unrealistic skinny Disney Princess figures for years, plus-size figures would only promote heart disease, so I vote for starvation. Everyone knows that death by starvation is way more respectable than being fat!
Average size is fine.. but plus size is just a sugarcoated word for fat.. I get that America wants its first position back as the most obese country in the world.. but com' on... don't do it to the rest of the world..
It's incredibly stupid. I'd lose all respect for Disney if they'd let some fat woman dictate how their dolls should look like just to be politically correct.
And what's wrong with fat women?
@Bloopy Nothing's wrong with fat women, if they want to be fat let them be fat. My point was that it's dumb if Disney would let anyone dictate how their dolls should look like just because of political correctness.
a princess is always a manifestation of "the best possible". being chubby isn´t "the best possible". i´m not against the "be ok with your body" mentality but i´m against the "fat is good" mentality.
I see no problem with there being a larger, or at least less unrealistically tiny Disney princess, as long as we don't make a big deal about it. You know, don't make it the entirety of the character.
I think they should make the princesses more realistic-looking, with more appropriate proportions instead of their waists being smallere than their heads, but i dont think they should be plus sized either.
This little girl told me she was mad that they make different sized barbies now because you can't have the same clothes for each one. Kids are pretty innocent. I'm all for positive body image, but most kids would not really see the difference.
Yes we should it's not going to turn the kids to obesity the parents do that, I think it will show the kids that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes they should love their bodies.
Wasn't there just a big deal made out of "How Disney Lied to Us" like a year ago? How would this be any better lol. I swear I saw that comment/post left and right just a few months ago.
I know it sounds daft because 99% of girls grow up fine but if it stops ONE girl developing an eating disorder that is a success to me.
Nah. From a business standpoint sure because it caters to a bigger population so more sales
But since when do business really care about people. They never did and never will
Not plus sized per se, but seeing a healthy natural figure on there would be nice. You know a UK size 12/14, instead of the tiny and not standard size 8
You shouldn't force a square peg into a round hole. Likewise, you shouldn't try to brainwash our society into thinking that being overweight is something worthy of praise.
I love chubby girls... but is it necessary to have chubby toons? I agree hollywood is not a great advisor in health and weight questions, but is it better to go over to the opposite? I dont think so...
Trends are stupid. We don't need a fat princess.
And, why the fuck people call the fat ones "plus sized"?
No, little girls should not be encouraged to become overweight. We don't make anorexic disney princesses either.
Are we encouraging obesity now, ans say it's okay for kids to be fat?
I don't care honestly. Just give me my fairytale musical with beatiful visuals and implausible happy ending.
Depends on what is considered 'plus size'. Obesity should never be praised, but a size 4 is a okay with me.
Being black, being ginger being gay is very normal.
But to think being fat is normal is sicking. What do you say to a Disney princess with drug abuse?
Isn't it an abuse to be fat!!!
My only problem is, is how perfect Disney Princess looks.
It is a good idea for buisness because of diversity, but the concern is the impact on health.
you didn't get enough when you were trying to get kids to be transgender before they were even ready to make that decision? just leave the kids alone.
How about just realistic? Marilyn Monroe was like a ten or something they just need top be a little rider at the waist if they want to make them skinny fair enough but make it realistic skinny
I think it's all dumb thinking that all females habe insecurity issues because barbie is blond and skinny.
"Plus size", yes. Fat? No. Sure it would be nice to have a realistic looking Disney Princess, nonetheless fat-promotion is ridiculous.
Sorry but wtf is "plus-size "? Is that soft people talk for fat? Even the fat people I know are willing to admit that they are fat and don't do a tap dance with words like plus-size and curvy. If that's the case than no because it's unhealthy.
I dont know how much of an inpact ot has on kids
I grew up reading comics with all of the perfectly scoulpted superheroes but im not depressed that i dont have a sox pack or arms the soze of basketballs
So im kinda with you
No because promoting unhealthy living is more like body abuse instead of body positivity.
Fat acceptance is wrong and we should be steering kids away from obesity not to thinking its normal.
If it suits the character they're trying to create then sure, but not creating one just for the sake of it
No. They're just toys? Are we gonna start giving super hero action figures that boys tend to play with dad bods?
That would actually make it quite fair! I'm imagining the prince looking like this to match up properly with Loey Lane:
vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/.../latest
... with that it no longer seems hypocritical. It just becomes a film about two fat people falling in love. :-D
That would encourage obesity. I'm all for loving yourself in spite of your weight (skinny or obese) but to promote more people to become obese isn't right.
For fuck sake SINCE WHEN WAS A DISNEY PRINCESS REPRESENTATIVE OF ANYTHING!
It;s not even representative of fucking PRINCESSES why would it have to represent different demographics. How contrived
I think it's a good idea, I don't think she should be plus sized just to be plus sized or for any other pc reason. But I don't see how it would be a bad idea.
I think it is a bad business idea, because mostly bigger girls and there moms will be into it. I guess some feminists will be into it too. It will never reach mass market.
How can full grown men, who have wives & children & a respectable job, how can such a man jack off to a "plus" size Disney Princess? That's just sick!!! That's fucking sick
I dont see why not though I can't see young girls either watching a fat princess or buying the merchandise. Political correctness is all well and good but it won't make money at the box office.
Fuck no!!! This is retarded! Why are we promoting obesity?
I don't think they should have an overweight or obese disney Princess, but all of the princesses are stick thin. It would be nice to see some princesses that are normal weight.
yeah pander to SJW cancer, such a good idea *sarcasm*
Well it caters to what most of the Americans are - ugly fat pigs.
So I guess it makes sense from a marketing standpoint.
In no way shape or form should society encourage obesity
Plus sized characters in Disney cartoons should be left in roles as the evil antagonist, or the comic relief nobody wants to become.
If they have a reason to write a character as a plus sized princess, absolutely.
But if they're just going to shoe horn one in there just to do it then it's shameful.
Not such a big deal... it's not like people are going to try to become obese or aspire to become obese because if it. In all honesty she's quite hot anyway.
