@ronaldo75 Why would that even matter? Obviously, she is now backed by other smart people. Who cares? She's not a "idiot." She's a smart kid who trusts science. She started her movement with a sign outside of her school. It has exploded from there.
That wasn't my question. My question was what you disagree with in Taylor_C's comment. She's a special needs child who has adult writing her speeches and billionaire capitalists funding her trips. Why is a 16 year old autistic pushing for carbon taxes when carbon taxes do NOTHING for the environment?
She is being backed by some very shady people, with a clear marxist agenda. Their purpose is to abolish free markets, they don´t give a damn about environment. Anyone else noticed then teenager Severn Cullis-Suzuki´s speech to the UN in 1992 has very similar wording and language to the one Greta delivered?
"She is being backed by some very shady people, with a clear marxist agenda."
I feel that this statement is an opinion not based on facts. I also feel that by you sharing this opinion, you are making YOUR agenda very clear: You are attempting to discredit sound science with irrational fear. Perhaps you have oil interests or you are a Russian, attempting to create global disharmony. Whatever it is, It's really quite shameful what you are doing. :(
No, she's a puppet parroting what adults have brainwashed her into believing. You can't possibly be stupid enough to think Greta knows anything about anything that she wasn't told by adults. She's not even old enough to form her own opinion on the subject. She's been spoon fed leftists rhetoric since she left the womb and now they're parading her around like some sort of circus attraction.
Got it. You believe in magic and you think science is stupid. Guess what? Nobody plops out of the womb with a head full of knowledge. IT'S ALL LEARNED. You have just gone on record as calling science "rhetoric" and implying that scientists are liars. So congrats on coming out of the closet today as a member of the dum-dum community. How does it feel?
The problem with the argument of saying the climate agenda is politically motivated by the left, also indicates that your own agenda is motivated by the right, therefore equally biased, and ultimately null and void.
Also, the age thing is a copout. Look at the planet and really tell us that 'adults' know anything? People are stupid, across age and the political spectrum. If anything, children are usually more natural and less retarded than adults.
"Science". Lol. Nothing Greta says has anything to do with science. She's just one giant virtue signal, trying to shame us all into acting the way she wants us too, but it has nothing to do with science. She doesn't site studies, formulas, or research. She glares at you with an annoying squint. It doesn't matter how you twist my words, Greta is nothing more than a puppet for leftist rhetoric, vomiting their ideas on us while they hide behind her like a shield from criticism. And it feels wonderful being immune to your pathetic shame tactics. Thank you. :)
@Levin Adults know more than children. The age thing isn't a "cop out". Calling it a cop out is using a child as a shield against criticism. If the adults who crammed rhetoric into her head had arguments strong enough to withstand criticism they would make those arguments themselves and back them up. They can't, so they stand behind her like cowards, using her as a barrier to avoid having their arguments shredded.
You see her that way because you have confirmation bias. You only see what you want to see, to confirm your currently held ideology. But you are wrong. Dead wrong. It's too bad. :( Thank you.
It seems she has the same disability I do. I am impressed with her willingness to put herself out there to spread a message she believes in. That is much more difficult for autistic people than you realize. I don't consider her a hero, but I respect her motives. I don't think it could hurt to work with the rest of the world and pursue entrepreneurial responses to climate change. I see several people dismissing her as a naive youngster being exploited by her parents or shadowy figures on the left, without offering any evidence to support such claims. Perhaps they haven't considered that it's possible for someone to hold a different opinion without being stupid, secretly evil, or involved in a conspiracy.

I feel bad for the way she's being exploited. But I guess she's able to parlay the fame into some serious bank, so it's all good.
I don't think the overarching point she's making is coherent though. The issue isn't whether or not climate change is a "real thing" or not. The question is exactly how much cost do we as a society want to incur to reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere? Because that economic growth she disparages has real life-or-death consequences for billions of people in much of the world. It's all well and good from someone from Sweden to say we don't need economic growth. But for much of the developing world it ain't that simple.
lol! I don't think her handlers have her doing that, so no--not terribly concerned about that. Mostly it helps me avoid being bothered by people who take a severe dislike to my opinion rather than engaging on the substance of it.
Greta is a puppet repeating what she's been told. I don't hold any ill will towards her, but she's still just a child repeating alarmist talking points.
Greta turnberg is not a hero but a brainwashed kid who has been manipulated and scared beyond belief by her parents. Its incredibly sad that they do this to her but their religion needed a massiah and now they have one.
@update, if a girl is told that and then made to preach about jesus you'd have the same thing with a different relgion. Except in this case Greta got turned into the messiah that needs to save us all.
I dont really see her as a hero. I see her as a spokesman for an agenda (a benign agenda, but still an agenda).
Greta's message is simple: "Hey jackasses, do something!" But she isn't the one to go to for solutions. Solutions will come from many different people. People with technical expertise and people who know what is politically possible. Of the solutions she has pitched, I have found them to be unrealistic. But to her credit she says she isn't the one with them. How could she be? She is just one person.
I think the entrepaneurs and workers installing solar panels in a company I used to work for are doing more... installing those things outside in the blistering texas heat for 40 hour weeks and not getting their names sung in the press (a drudgey work week isn't a very inspiring thing to write about, I get it). Point is, raising awareness only gets you so far. At a certain point you are just sitting and complaining.
No, her parents are in high places and well connected. She is simply an unfortunate autistic child being used by her parents who are smart to stay out of direct media attention and use their child as a vector for their insidious agenda.
I think it's amazing that a person of her age has managed to build this huge platform for herself. That on its own is admirable. What's more admirable is how passionate she is and how she's using this platform for good.
I fully believe in climate change. I think the media spotlight on a kid though that doesn't understand a lot of things that adults do is wrong. The thing that gets me is that I really do not believe she is level and unflinching but rather over emotionally charged. I feel she loses a lot of credibility with this.
No, she is a tool being misused by the cultural elitists who are trying to fleece the people even more than they already do. Think "climate change" is a genuine threat? The Obamas clearly don't, having just purchased a nearly $15,000,000 estate on the island of Martha's Vineyard. The estate sits just 10 feet above sea level. On a coastal island. Think it through, people. You are being lied to. Again.
I haven't followed this topic at all but as a first time hearing about it. I think it makes a larger impact on those viewing it just because of her age. Most people wouldn't think a child to even care about a topic like this. Let alone most adults don't even care. The home hitting impact us her knowledgeable background combined with her young age and assumed inexperience.
I dislike being told what to do, and I am smart enough to know that a movement using a child as a flagship of their program makes them appear ahead of the curve as those who disagree are "dicks" and their "reasonable" point is so simple a child can promote it. It's marketing brilliance, I just don't particularly want to be told what to do by her or whoever tells her what to say.
Big fan. Makes me proud to be Norwegian. She is right. Maybe she ain't talking about the best way to go about it, i wouldn't know. All i know is that she is making people talk about our inevitable doom and every bought up news caster in USA is shitting on her so they won't be out of a job. It's fucking sad. She's trying to save their grandkids and they're mocking her... Grown men and women are mocking a 16 year old scared for her life...

She's a political prop and jailbait fetish for woke 20 year old guys. YouTube is full of this kinda stuff which usually involves clickbait such as 15 year old girl can play drums etc
There is a difference between a child participating and an innocent child being told that she will die if people don't change their ways. Greta is purposefully traumatized for political propeganda based on things not even objectively proven. That is child abuse.
No but it good that she has a calling. it's just show how easily manipulated people are. I still don't see anything else than media footprints from her work. Maybe as inspiration for others who actually do actions that actually improve things.
We have known for almost a lifetime the effects of climate change. It's not news, but it's still really important to understand how to make changes and what makes the mass deaths of animals and plants. Also to understand how the planet work, what actually makes the air, what makes things work the way it does. If we kill off some of the things that makes life ticks then we are effectively killing out self and our future
Wow. You're going to block anyone who disagrees with you. To me this looks like somebodies half thought up plan to make this kid into some kind of "folk celebrity". Watch she's going to be getting into politics next.

Greta is a useful idiot to the marxists. There are also huge monetary interests behind her, which are exploiting her for their own benefit.
I respectfully disagree. I think she's great. :)
That´s because you don´t know the backstory. That kid is being used.
I feel that you are being used.
What are you disagreeing about? It's public knowledge she's backed by Bill Gates and George Soros are funding her.

Couldnt have said it better myself

@Shamalien No you couldn't have. When something is THAT stupid, saying it again would have only been just as stupid. A 1:1 ratio of stupid. :)

you can't call someone stupid and claim they have confirmation bias as you do. The irony is simply... too strong... I can't... FUCKKKK!!!

I think she’s being exploited and it’s sad that we need a child to ask the government to care about the environment

I still love the sheer political bluntness of the under 18 generation, never change and never let your teachers corrupt you.

Lol that's true about girls on YouTube. Pure pussy pedelization from thirsty guys. I assume Greta has a following of creepy SJW guys that fetishise her.
