I mean cops shoot white people all the time too. So i don't think that would made any difference there.
The only thing that i could see 100% different is the amount of people sticking up for his actions. A lot of pro-gun conservatives and that would not be defending him. And mostly everyone would just see him as criminal.
That been said, If OJ can do what he did and still have people believe he was innocent i dunno if it would be all that different really.
One cannot predict such things, the context of everything can change the whole story. And race for is a context. But in reality it could of also not changed much at the same time.
The whole way it works is kinda random, One person could be arrested for killing his wife but with no real evidence and found guilty then the exact same thing happens just in a different city but this guy don't get found guilty.
If you watch any real crime shows you will know right away, that just there is a simple fact all cases are handled very differently for seemingly no reason. And sometimes they blame that on funding or not trained but when it's every single place that's just called not following clear guidelines and that the law within the court it's self is too subjective.
Yet the judges and things get paid to be objective it's a joke lol.
This case alone proves that fact too. If things were more objective it wouldn't take that long to make a verdict.112 Reply- +1 y
since you're in the UK i have a feeling you underestimate the apparent racial bias in our criminal justice system. i just cannot see how this would turn out favorably had Rittenhouse been black.
- +1 y
Worked out for OJ at first. Worked out for people forgetting that George was really nasty man almost turned him into a idol wouldn't of shocked me if they built a statue of him in the name of peace... me like... umm he was gonna shoot a pregnant women threating that he would of shot the baby first then her.
Then people totally forget literally a innocent white girl who was shot by cop for no reason just a week beforehand. That didn't get talked about.
While there is plenty of racism in America and also here too. It don't mean it cannot swing both ways. And mostly all it would do is make him a hero to some and villain to some which Kyle already is. So the difference is not really much there. Except he would be more of hero to black people rather than white.
But would that been a good thing? Him shooting people then people preaching about how they just want to jail him because he is black and people just looking over people with real concern over the fact that he shot people and are not racist?
It could go in any direction really. - +1 y
nah i can't agree with you there. just live here for a year or two and you'll get it. the scales are clearly tipped against nonwhite people here especially in nonblue parts
- +1 y
OJ was an anomaly. and exception. especially back in the 90s. he was a rich celebrity and could afford every expensive defense lawyer in L. A. but if you read up more about it you'll understand how him being found innocent had more to do with the history of racism in the city and indeed in the country then it had to do with the actual facts of the case.
read up more on the history of racism especially in our criminal justice system and you'll get it. There wasa very very major reason why the Rodney King Riots broke out... and also the Ferguson Riots in 2014.
if you really think there's not racial bias in our court system... then i can't help you. - +1 y
Please tell me when i said there wasn't any. Just saying it can work both way's. If you don't think racism can do that then you need more help than me. Sorry not sorry.
And OJ was rich and yes that played a lot into it. But a lot of public defence for him aka the people talking to each about it, there was always the thought of well you just think he killed her cause your racist. When no many people were smart enough to know he was crazy. But just the fact they could play that race card like that swayed people's thoughts.
If you thought OJ was a killer people would shame you as a racist. No doubt that happened. Which again is it working both way's. - +1 y
if he wasn't rich or a celebrity i guarantee you it would have gone just as any other case at that time. he would have been tossed in a prison cell for life possibly even after the first time he beat his wife too
- +1 y
And that would of been great. Justice served and people wouldn't of had the talk in the first place of your just racist if you think OJ is killer. But the fact is it did bring up that your just racist if you think OJ is a killer into people's minds at the time.
But you stick to a world were racism is only for people of colour. Just know factually racism can be to everyone and used in all ways including to white people. - +1 y
nope i know it can and does exist in all ways. but not nearly as much as it is for nonwhites as much as conservatives here love to claim victim-hood racism against is just not nearly as prevalent.
Again just remove OJ's Celebrity status and he would have been cooked swiftly. There's a real good documentary showing how even rich wealthy white elites welcomed him into their club and meanwhile his old buddies back in oakland felt a bit abandoned or shunned. - +1 y
That explains how George got to be such a vocal point while been poor then because apparently to you it only happens when there rich.
It don't happen just because of that reason. It was factor. And again would of been great if they did just send him to jail and he was never made such a big deal out of. Objectivity is good. - +1 y
there has been progress since the 90's. yes that is good. but this time there was huge amount of press against Derek Chauvin,, and also he was in a fairly liberal area. most major cities here tend to be more left leaning here.
You will find more and more exceptions today then back then, but the criminal justice system here is still clearly biased towards nonwhites. just check out the prison population. - +1 y
At the end of the day all i am saying is. Racism is a double edged sword and likely all it would have done is changed the vocal opinion on this case. Could of changed the legal outcome too. But who knows it's all random. But with such a focus on the case i doubt race would of helped or hurt anything. If it had less focus then maybe. But it's all just what the judge wants at the end of the day completely subjective to them.

Dont know. There are too many variables to say one way or another tbh. Are we getting the same judge for starters? Is everything else playing out EXACTLY the same? I also dont know all the details. Did any police come forward to say they witnessed the men drawing a gun on him first? If so I think he would still have gotten off assuming things were the same. I can't claim that each individual LEO is a racist, nor can I say the same about the judge. It's all speculation and I'm not in the habit of slandering anyone I don't know or dont have proof for. Race wasn't the issue with this case.
The problem was he was a right wing armed citizen which the opposition despises. I think when someone says it wouldn't get the same coverage I disagree. It would be less focused on the individual and more focused on the firearm. Imho this case is made to try to make an example out of gun owners everywhere. And MAYBE I'm wrong on that. But every time an AR is used I feel like everyone in the whole DNC tries to get as personal as possible in their bid to rid the nation of a large portion of semi automatic firearms. Plus these days I think even the racist cops are terrified of shooting a black man if crowds of people are around. So I think it WOULD make it to trial at the very least most likely.10 Reply
+1 yI honestly don’t think it would have mattered with ALL the video evidence, it’s probably the most clear-cut case of self defends in juris prudence! NOW do I think the cop would have told him to “fuck off” after he said “I just shot someone”? NO! That would likely have gone MUCH differently! Bit it’s not like black people don’t get off on self defense… just look at Da Baby… he shot a dude in Walmart in N. Carolina and got off on self defense! I do think Rittenhouse will likely be convicted on at least one serious felony, because I believe the jurors are worried about more riots!

I said A, because I'm not racist. And as such I have faith in humanity that racism isn't what we all aspire to be. I also don't assume such arrogance to believe myself able to read minds of others, much less assume or claim someone is racist.
So him being white/black/orange/purple, has no place in a trial and no bearing on the results. If I can't trust a Judge and a jury of my peers to act accordingly to the expectations of their tasks, then there's no reason for 'trust' to exist and I would live a miserable and malcontent existence.11 Reply544 opinions shared on Trending & News topic. There probably wouldn't have been a trial at all (like there shouldn't have been in this one) because it wouldn't have fit the narrative. Some NRA and other pro-gun circles would eventually get around to using it as a "Good Guy with a Gun" story in one of their newsletters, but that's about it. Maybe he'd turn up again a decade or two later running for office and using that night as a bullet point for how much of a "Frontline everyman" he is. Now if the attackers who got shot were black, it would be a very different story, and we'd probably be watching the vice president crack Champaign open on their faces being carved into a mountain somewhere a year later.

+1 yHe'd be dead already. Kenneth Walker when defending Breonna Taylor shot a police guy in the leg. The cops didn't knock. Just blasted through the door. He was charged with attempted murder for shooting the leg and not blowing the cop's head off. If Rittenhouse gets off, it is gonna set a precedent that lunatic active shooters can claim self defense anytime they kill someone and anyone, including cops, try to take them down.

+1 yWell considering the fact he turned himself into the police he would not have gotten shot by police like people assume. Honestly I think they would have only brought a gun charges against him because it was clearly self defense. This trial is political and they want to make people think he was a white supremacist vigilante wanting to shoot people instead of trying to protect property rioters were destroying.

+1 yWould NOT have gotten half the attention it did. Either way i want this spoiled, entitled, nerdy little fuck to go to jail. Two people are dead and a third is maimed for life cuz this little shit went out with an assault rifle. Self defense my fuckin ass.
10 ReplyI know nothing about this case. All I know is that a lot of users are commenting on this trial. But yes I can tell that if he was black everything would be different, he would be treated differently for sure.

+1 yWould not have mattered. People seem to think race matters much more than it actually does. ANYONE in the same position as Rittenhouse would be found not guilty if a reasonable jury is listening to the case.

+1 yCops would have either killed him or the jury would have deliberated for 5 seconds before finding him guilty. A black man shooting in "self defense" is never allowed in America. but a bunch of white supremacists are supporting Kyle.
10 Reply I don't remember there being any cops to gun him down if it were the case that he will definitely be shot because he was black.

there were cops, they were just a bit outside the area and pretty much guided the rioters there

Black people have always been stigmatized for having guns. Our second amendment rights have always been in question.
Even The language of the second amendment, was crafted to ensure that slave owners could quickly crush any rebellion or resistance from those whom they'd enslaved.
Just look at how many people got away with the domestic terrorism that happened at the capital? Some of those people had the intent to cause bodily harm to certain individuals, where were the police?
The answer is our police has never cared about protecting the people and never will care. They openly condone fascists and neo nazis and always have
www.reddit.com/.../
Here are the proud boys (a hate group) attending a school board meeting. Peep the police in the background doing nothing.
Or the 31 police officers that have been suspected to have been involved in that capital riot

From what I read he was defending himself. We don’t know.
I don’t understand why everything has to do with race- switch in this earth? What if Mulan was black or snow white was black.. or agent 007 was black. What if what if.. instead of asking a question for the victims who lost their life and what really happened with this teen why he killed 3 people.
How trial would have gone had he been a black Person?
Same as it’s going now!
