It is attributed to medication use. I had covid last year and I lost smell for one month. I tasted sour, salty and sweet but I had often false smell of burned plastic while eating. Now I have covid again it's day 11 and I didn't lost smell. Vaccine didn't affect my smell sense at all. As dentists you need a strong immune system. It's not possible to protect yourself in 100% against water-saliva aerosol that surrounds you. Everyone in clinic where I make my internship had covid and lost taste for 4-8 weeks. Taste and smell loss is a neurological effect that happens just one time. Some people smelled hay, others bad teeth and I had the pleasure with burned plastic. Honestly I never heard this happens due covid vaccination, are you sure you don't have other symptoms like slight fever and sore throat?
Yes, neurologic. That's what I read many months ago but I don't remember in what article. Also hormonal and something else... metabolic or something. This is one of the reasons I've been extremely concerned. I'm certainly open to other possibilities here. This is why I asked the question. I had heard of one other person talking about it. But just because something isn't widely known or publicized, doesn't mean it isn't happening. Especially with all the political and governmental propaganda surrounding this now. I could say I have, perhaps, slightly reduced sens of smell (I normally have a really, really, sensitive sense of smell and there have been intermittent times I felt I could barely smell something I used to), but other than general fatigue (nothing like couch lock), can't say I have any other symptoms. Definitely not fever or sore throat. What's also disturbing is that some people with covid are asymptomatic. But other than the very bad taste, I feel about the same as usual. My husband thinks I could have covid, based on some reading he did. But it's only a chance, not a strong possibility, I'm guessing.

Personally I wouldn't take any pills like Zinc or Vitamin-D which boost immune system reaction as long as you don't have any cold symptoms.

I have had Covid. I lost all sense of taste and smell for about a month at least. I didn’t eat anything for about a 10 days except for a small bit of chicken broth. I had no appetite at all. And I couldn’t taste anything anyway. It didn’t all come back at once either. Just sort of realized, hmm I can actually taste this. Also, my cravings are different now. I was a sweets person prior to Covid. Now I crave meat, like a juicy hamburger. I’ve never been like that in my life.

I just saw something about this recently. There's an actual name for it and a lot of people are reporting it. Where their ability to taste good food is completely destroyed. Some people can't taste anything accurately, everything they eat tastes like trash and rotting maggots

I can't say I have noticed any changes to my taste after getting the first 2 vaccine shots back in March. In all fairness though, I didn't experience any sort of side effects at all so maybe I'm lucky?

Yes the tallied numbers are small right now. But I will expect them to be more documented soon. (It's not advantageous for governments to publicize it though, so doubtful. It's perfectly reasonable to want to raise awareness of a side effect that can happen after the COVID vaccine and other vaccines/medications. There should definitely be more research on the topic so they can come up with a way to fix it.

I've blocked MJ. Once I read through everything I saw how unreasonable and extremist and rude he was being. I definitely do not want to spread misinformation. That's a very important topic to me. (Although disinformation is even worse.) I am for the flow of information. The question began as an honest one, and through it I have been able to find research which supports my correlation. I'm not an antivaxxer, but I'm also not taking everything governments are saying about the safety of vaccines. It has come to a point of suppression of information, and even propaganda. I want ALL the information. I've seen enough to warrant great concern. I'm going through every possibility, just happened to have got my teeth cleaned too (problem existed before that), and am not on any medications. But medications cause all sorts of taste issues, so that is something people should know. In my case, it comes down to the vaccine.

I've vaguely thought a couple/few times that things had a bit less of an odour than usual, but that's not unusual for me based on how dry the air is in my place (we have a gas fireplace on a lot now, and that dries out the air some.) I smell everything (it's a habit, and because I can't avoid noticing.) I got very congested the days following the vaccine shot (my husband pointed out this potential correlation). It might have been an autoimmune response to the shot. I get allergic sometimes. So when I'm congested (the opposite of being dried out) I obviously can't smell well then. But there has been no distortion of smell at all.
I voted A, but it went away. I had the bad aftertaste for about a week followed by a week of not taste and then a sweeter aftertaste for a week and back to normal.
When I caught COVID, I had a bad fever and breathing issues but was completely fine after a month with no lingering symptoms. After the vaccination, I had no side effects other than the typical soreness you get from any shot.
