This is why guns should only be held in shooting ranges and ised only under professional guidance.
As far as the American right to bare arms goes, its almost impossible for a foreign nation to attack america. Most gun killings are Americans killing each other. Many gun lovers may believe its the means of self defence. Even if you kill in pure self defence, the chances of the dead troublemakers partners in crime will still retaliate, and so could their friends and family.
By the time guns need to be drawn out, at any other place than a shooting range, we all jave failed as a society.
I agree with you , the parents actions were stupid at best , and its about time people started to take notice , the kid should NEVER have had any gun , the comments of the parents were ludicrous and may they face the full force of the law , and stand as an example to others , who think its a good idea to have multiple firearms lying around , either way , they loose everything , as they face civil action after conviction.
This should have NEVER happened , and here we go yet again , ludicrous ideals.
So from what I've read and heard of the case, it seems like they knew what they're son was going to do. How on earth were they called in to talk about his disturbing behavior only to end up pushing for him to be allowed back in class. And then he goes back to class and shoots it up? I feel like they knew what was up. And that's why they ran. So while they may not have pulled the trigger, they carry some of the weight of this.
Yep I agree! Start holding parents accountable for neglecting to supervise what their children are doing in their home! Having a gun around the house is very easy to notice.

I know absolutely nothing about this case. However the quote has some crazy implications!
Being guilty only because member of their family commited a crime? If they switched "household" for "nationality" it would be highly racist statement so why is it that they find the topic of "guilt shared by blood relations" to be alright?
Shouldn't the deciding factor be whether they knew about the crime and actively tried to hide it? Instead of mere "you live with him and that makes you guilty too"?
And just after thinking how stupid the parents of Kyle Rittenhouse were to let their 17 years old child out to play Judge Dredd in the streets, the next contender enters the ring: Buying a mentally unstable 15-year-old a gun for Christmas and texting him "you have to learn not to get caught". Awesome parenting. Ho-Ho Ho! :-(
It's not just the firearms issue but their refusal to listen to the school's concerns and pull their kid out to sort out what was going on. Her own texts to her son about being more careful to not get caught shows she and the father were enabling and perhaps even encouraging their son's actions.
So yeah, the charges have validity.
I would say that is a stretch since they had no direct action in the event. That would be like punishing both children because one decided to break the parent's rules.
If anything, they are more guilty of not paying attention to their kid's life and his state of mind outside of securing their new firearm properly.
I hope I didn’t set a precedent here but frankly in this case it sounds justified, They clearly knew there kid was disturbed they were called to the principals office that day because there son had been drawing a picture of shooting others he was taking photos of the gun online and the gun wasn’t put in a proper locked gun safe these guys should be going to jail, I hope is doesn’t set a precedent because not all parents are as irresponsible as these parents were
We could see Rittenhouse's and other parents in the dock as well.
I've always found it a glaring error of the American justice system how the family is always kept out of these sorts of crimes.
It's blatant that the family raised and abetted the behaviour and resources. It should be tested in law how much of a role the family played, and how negligent they were in not raising the alarm earlier.
These two deserve being charged, getting their kid a gun when they now he has been causing problems. And the school is to blame as well. Nothing needs done with firearms in this situation. This all was on the school and parents for neglecting the problems this kid was showing.
I heard that the parents bought him the Pistol and then gave it to him as a early Christmas present and then let him take it to school and tried to discipline for it and then he did it again and shot people. Not sure if thats even at all tried but the fact they bought him a pistol is weird
I agree with Black Bart. Weird as hell.
The parents need to rot in jail.
Lock em up, and throw out the key. You brought the kid into the world, and then you neglected your legal duty to look after them. Now people are dead and you're gonna say it's the child's fault, or it's the gun's fault? No, it was the parents.
Nobody should be at fault if they didn't do the actual crime. If the cops arrested me because a roommate sold heroin, that wouldn't be justice. At all.
I think it's a bad idea. Now people are more increasing on dangerous medicines that have very dangerous side affects that make people homicidal and suicidal and for that hospital , doctors and especially big pharma need to be held accountable.
These people who are doing mass shootings are on dangerous medicines
What was illegal about the weapon?
I know it was a straw purchase, that is a existing crime and they should be charged with that... at least whichever one of them completed the purchase.
There is much more wrong in this case than the gun! If there were tests to pass before becoming a parent neither of these two would ever have passed and never been able to make that kid.
If a person gets a gun, it puts the responsibility on them to use it accordingly, even in terms of defence. After all, guns do not allow automatically to kill others.
I just think it's lucky no one in the school tried to defend themself with a skateboard or this couple would have gotten millions in donations for legal fees by now.
From what I read the parents bought the kid the gun because he was under age. In my mind this would make them accountable.
Accountable to accessory to murder but not involuntary manslaughter.
I recommend you read more into the details about penal codes. So many people are just throwing out “oh they are equally accountable” remarks like a bunch morons.
We can not have political biased in our judicial systems.
Tough one because if they were not the ones that took any action with it.. it was the son
and as that kids gradian that are responsible for him..
I agree with the charges, but I see culpability with the school district too. They didn’t even check the kids backpack before sending him back to class ffs.
They’re not being charged because of a gun stupid they’re being charged for knowing how mentally I’ll their kid was and doing nothing so get it right. It’s called enabling and this isn’t the first case to go to trial. Look up Rae Dawn Smith
This is bullshit to the enth degree that must not be allowed to stand.
This is Communist guilt by association, not Western evidence-based justice.
They are both knuckleheads. But a criminal charge of involuntary manslaughter is insane. At best they could be charged for accessory to murder.
Parents are responsible for their children, if the child is doing something wrong the parents as gradians should, in part, be held responsible.
Yeah but this criminally responsible. That’s different.
@globetrotter22 If a person has a dog and that dog kills someone, the owner is responsible. In my opinion they should get into trouble for not properly storing the firearm, it's basically child endangerment.
They are being charged with involuntary manslaughter which is far stretch. They could be charged with accessory to murder. For example if you buy booze for a minor and they kill someone drinking and driving than it’s accessory to murder. But they wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) be charged for involuntary manslaughter.
They parents are morons. I 100% agree with that. But this is an example of the legal system being politicized.
@globetrotter22 when has the legal system not been politicized?
The last couple years we have seen a gross partisan impact on the judicial system via political issues. It’s horrifying. The Kyle Rittenhouse case should of never went to trial. The Derek Chauvin trial took place in Minneapolis where it next to imposible to find unbiased jurors. Sure enough one of the jurors that convicted him was later revealed to be a BLM activists. Note: I think Chauvin is a POS but still he is entitled to fair trial. That was nowhere near it.
The legal system is supposed to be completely fact based and impartial. When we start pressing criminal charges on civilians because of political pressure we inching closer to a communistic style judicial system.
Just for the record I do not think these parents are “innocent”. You could arguably convict them on accessory to murder. But the fact they are facing involuntary manslaughter charges is very wrong.
If the parents are guilty for owning the house where an illegal weapon was stored then the school is also responsible for housing an illegal weapon when he brought it to the school.
Except the school would have had him arrested had they known. That's a false equivalency.
I'd say the equivalent is if they gave him a gun upon entrance. Even then you couldn't charge every administrator or teacher or staff member.
@Hypnos0929 I stand corrected. I went to do some research. I see now why the parents are being charged.
If a kid gets drunk and kills someone while driving the family car are the parents guilty of involuntary manslaughter?
At best they are civilly liable.
I thought initially the teen took the gun from the house, but they actually gave the teen the gun and knew he had it school thus they should be charged with a crime.
I'm a pro-gun guy, but this one is very problematic. Not sure what the answer is.
guns do not belong near children, regardless of what you think. the parents need to be held accounable.
Let's see if the charge is admitted by court.
It will tell the intellectual capacity of the judges in that country
They, and their son, should be executed by firing squad.
The mom texted her son not to get caught or something.
And I heard they ran
Im interested to see how much less time the female gets
Now just living in the same house with a possibly illegal gun makes you responsible? That is insane.
As the legal gradian of a child, the parents are responsible for that child.
The gun was supposed to be a Christmas present for the son. It was purchased legally by his father.
@Subarugirl True, and I suppose leaving the gun lying around might have been illegal. Giving it to him was a very bad idea as it turns out, but perhaps not illegal. However, what the kid actually DID was his responsibility - his parents had no knowledge that he would do that, and way to stop him although his mother tried.
I think his parents are basically not wonderful people, but I don't think they are exactly criminals.
in most situations the parents are held at least in part responsible if their minor child does something that they shouldn't. His parents should also be held responsible for not having the fire arm properly locked and stored away, at the end of the day their child took their gun and shot up a school.
The parents bought a mentally ill child a murder weapon and encouraged him to use it. They are criminals. School shootings are happening at an insane rate and in just one place in the world: the USA. Laws need to change.
@supercutebutt Or parents should be held responsible for what their minor children do..
@Subarugirl That means changing the laws in most instances.
She told her son “lol. Next time don’t get caught”
so yes good job for arresting her
It's not the parents fault if their child is a murderer.
Sounds like accountability is in the works.
I don't agree with this, based off that quote.
Who owned the gun that was used?
I don't believe in Peter paying for Paul.
good. they deserve it. theyre white
Good! Whole family should be in jail, or worse.
illegal and legal are different
